Please don’t come here to crap on PFF. If you don’t like their ratings, move along.

I’m glad to see they confirm what I’ve been saying for years, which is that McCourty is often ranked Tier B+ because of the perceived reputation of safeties, and the reality is he’s Tier A.

I wonder if Gronkowski would be #2 or even #1 had been 100% healthy throughout the decade...I would think so.

Pretty crazy that the Patriots had three of the league’s best CB’s throughout the decade, and neither Talib or Gilmore were consider elite (in actual production) when the Patriots picked them up.

    1. Tom Brady
    5. Rob Gronkowski
    23. Darrelle Revis
    26. Devin McCourty
    76. Stephon Gilmore
    80. Chandler Jones
    85. Aqib Talib

Surprises (based on where they are):

    4. Richard Sherman
    12. Chris Harris
    18. Peyton Manning
    24. Casey Hayward
    36. Chris Myers
    42. Brandon Graham
    53. Brent Grimes
    56. Damon Harrison
    66. Tyrann Mathieu
    79. Fun Johnson
    83. Keenan Allen

Nice to see McCourty get some love.

I think he will be the one player, once he retires, people will realize what a gigantic presence he was for the Pats. Just incredibly consistent and durable with no holes in his game.

I really like a lot of PFF stuff and have subscribed for years. Some of it not so much but they're very useful if you like info and thinking. I notice a lot of our draft grades are on the same page too.

I can't get fired up over that list. Pretty much on point for the most part.

QB's avoid throwing at him. He's routinely asked to move around and tasked with the hardest assignments.

I think DMC, Chung & Gilmore are all pretty much equal in terms of responsibility and being a taskmaster. Chung struggled a lot at times last year but was asked to do a ton.

Incredible career, borderline HOF imo when you look at everything.

A side by side comparison of stats with McCourty, Thomas, Weddle, etc shows that McCourty’s “lack of playmaking” is a myth. He also forces lots of turnovers, even though that’s often a function of the whole defense.

    INT + FF = Total

    McCourty
    26 + 11 = 37

    Thomas
    30 + 12 = 42

    Weddle
    29 + 8 = 37

McCourty also rarely gambles in coverage.

I feel that with a bit of time, I can find 60 players I’d rather have than Damon Harrison.

They had Brady's run from 2015-2018 as the best 4 year of any QB ever. That is amazing as Brady was in his late 30's/early 40's during those years. Really was his best football.

Interesting they put Brees over Rodgers. Rodgers had the much better decade. Won a SB, was SB MVP and two time league MVP. Had more division wins too with 6 compared to 4 for Brees.

Rodgers has a lot of hidden negative stats like sacks and fumbles that don’t show up in most analysis. He had been an average QB for 5+ years. I agree that if this were based on accolades, it’s a no brainer for Rodgers.

Finally some well deserved recognition for DMac. He will be one of those who will miss the HoF just because of continuous AP and Pro Bowl snubs.

Last year was another example of that with Minkah getting the nod over him for randomly standing in the right spot a couple times to pick up some fumbles.

Guess he will have to make due with at least 3 rings.

I'm surprised Russell Wilson barely made the top third, at 33... He plays better than that and has a ring...

It always seems as though McCourty has been undervalued by many Pats Fans.. he makes few mistakes, anticipates well and was a leader on the field and in the locker room..

He has been very steady in his role, only missing 5 games in a 10 year career..

McCourty does his job.. better than most..

The case for Brees is such an interested one for me. Saints fans believe he is easily top 5 All time if not outright #1. My biggest issue with him is his lack of bad weather games. 95% of his career games have been in perfect or close to perfect conditions. We've seen the Pats play numerous games over the past 20 years where passing would be incredibly difficult due to high winds, rain, snow, ice etc... and QB stats are impacted accordingly. Brady's bad weather skills are second to none. Have the Saints really had a bad defense as often as their stats indicate or are they a victim of those same perfect conditions? And of course marginal post season success drops him down the list. Agree on Rogers that his sparkling stats have almost seemingly become a detriment when it appears he'd rather get sacked than take a chance on a well covered pass even when the game circumstances seem to require it.

McCourty has great situational awareness and football intuition. He is very seldom caught in the wrong spot, considering his position that's pretty significant.

Just as an aside, I'm not a Rodgers or Brees honk but I find it interesting that Rodgers gets little to nothing by way of props for his bad weather skills but Brees gets downgraded (somewhat rightfully) for playing a minimum of 10 indoor games a season and the bulk of the others in very good passing conditions.

I think regarding Pat's players Edelman should be on the list, DMC is slightly high (should be in the 40s I think) and Gilly is too low (should at least be in the 50s if not better)

Sherman at 4 is a joke. Imo.

Like it or not, Antonio Brown is a former Patriot as well. He checks in at #13.

Sherman's a first ballot Hall of Famer and has played extremely well into his thirties.
