Pats WRs in the playoffs and who sits.

If healthy, all 5 pure wr dress imo. Cannot sit amendola unless hes hurt. Hes the best pr on the team currently, je has taken a step back in the return game. Either way its preferable to have da returning kicks. As said, hes made some really clutch plays for us too. That stuff is invaluable

Let's see who practices this week and how much. Both Amendola and Mitchell have been injured but both could return this week. If they are all good to go, then it will be interesting. People who want to see them dress both (5 WRs) should specify which player who has been playing should sit, and who would take his place on the field. This can be difficult given the general lack of knowledge about STs. I remember when many of us could not understand Slater's importance and would have happily cut him for a flashy new WR. There is some duplication with Floyd and Mitchell, and neither plays STs, so does one big game from Floyd negate a fine rookie year? Tough to know how Bill and Josh see this. Here's an early start on the projected inactives. I think 6 are straightforward, but the last one is not. They have some depth and flexibility at DE/LB/ED, so this position might be a guess. If Grissom sits, for example, who takes his place on STs?

Foster
Brissett
Hamilton
Richards
Waddle
C. Jones/Coleman
Grissom?

Instead of worrying about who should be active, why not worry about some automatic inactives?

Jacoby Brissett
D.J. Foster
Cyrus Jones
Jordan Richards
LaAdrian Waddle

Those 5 are automatic inactives. Dola may or may not be ready for the divisional round, so that's 1 more potential inactive. All you need is one more guy.

I would inactivate as little as possible from the WR corp. Pick a third stringer LB or something.

You want Edelman, Floyd, Mitch, Hogie, Marty, and even Langell, all active. Keep rotatiting and create special formations to confuse whoever is the poor bastard we're facing, especially a good defense like KC or even the Steelers.

Is Cyrus injured or just in BB's doghouse?

Cyrus Jones in not an automatic inactive.

While he may not return kicks in the post-season, he may very well take defensive reps.

I think you keep all 5 active if all are healthy plus Lengel- if anyone is not 100 percent inactivate him. We will not need to put up 35 to beat the Raiders or Texans so keep the defense and special teams strong.
Then, up against the Chiefs or Steelers you need them all active as it could be a shootout.

If healthy and NEAR 100 percent all 5 and Lengel must be active for many reasons against Chiefs/Steelers.

Edelman- special teams and our best third down possession receiver LOCK
Amendola- our best returner who can focus primarily on this. We can't get Jules hurt in ST and he will make a couple clutch catches- LOCK
Hogan - downfield threat- near lock
Mitchell- downfield threat with size on slants and sideline throws-near lock
Floyd- tackle breaker we will need whose size can break free for a tough first down like Gronk and good blocker. Also a downfield and sideline threat with size and athleticism. If he has picked up offense (Bill says he is getting better everyday) he is a lock. We brought him in to be the playmaker we lost in Gronk and he is a different body type than Jules, Chris, and Danny who are all similar. That differentiation is important and create matchup advantages. Not to mention , his size and strength around goal line could lead to a touchdown instead of a field goal.
Also, having all 5 is necessary in case of an in game injury

Just for the heck if it I picked 8 random teams 1 from each division randomly and added up games played for WRs. I used 5 receptions as the minimum to consider them really a wr.
4 active per game would be 64
5 would be 80
So having 6 active for even 1/4 of the games would mean 84+

Jets 75
Bengals 65
Texans. 75
Raiders. 64
Giants. 60
Packers. 71
Bucs. 72
Cardinals 78

So it looks like everyone but the giants always have 4 active and the others have a 5th in 0,1,7,8,11,11,14 games and none have 6 active WRs. Not a complete analysis but pretty consistent wth what I expected

5 or 6 wasn't out of bounds, as you noted. 5 is fairly common, while anytime a team actually had 6 wrs active, it probably would involve kick returners or other special teamers.

The Patriots have gone with up to 4 TEs and currently have two scatback type RB/WRs who play a lot. They usually aren't a WR heavy team in the BB era. It wouldn't be drastic for them to dress 5 WRs, especially since the 5th would likely be their main punt and kick returner.

Love the nice things about Amendola but let's not overlook the fact "he's been injured every year he's been here" IF that's not the definition of Fragile I don't know what is. Amendola is an ok WR with good hands he's nothing special on the outsides but good in the slot. Right now to be honest he's the least of our WR's. IF it comes down to it would any here like to see Amendola active over say a Mitchell and now Floyd?? Mitchell was getting more snaps than Dola before he went down and Floyd is getting up to speed in our Offense. Floyd now have two more weeks to learn even more...I love his upside in our Offense going forward.
