Pats vs Browns Pre Game Discussion

Our defense has the propensity to make scrub QBs look like All-Stars. I hope we buck that trend this week.
That trend will never go away as long as the D keeps running soft zone schemes most of the time.

why not our O? we still have a decent offense and wether Magini is familiar or not with our old offense, doesnt mean that he can stop us. yeah, its no gimmie game against the browns but this is the cleveland browns against the New england patriots. brady will lead us through this game.

If we are terrified of the Browns, i hate to see the Pittsburg Pre-game discussion Lol

lol Pats are probably going to destroy them on the offensive side, Sheldon Brown is their best corner.

People who keep going on about how the Browns beat the Saints ignore the simple fact that Brees threw 4 interceptions. If you throw 4 interceptions you are going to lose no matter who you are against. If Brees didn't crap the bed himself then that game could have been way different.

I have a feeling Brady won't throw 4 ints.

Not to take anything away from Rob Ryan and the Cleveland defense, but there are rumors out there that Brees is less than 100% healthy - which could have contributed to the picks.

Report: Saints hiding fracture, torn meniscus in Brees' knee | ProFootballTalk.com

Kenny Wilkerson of WIST radio in New Orleans recently reported, with a high degree of conviction and passion, that Brees has a fracture and a torn meniscus in the knee.

Wilkerson cites an "impeccable source," and he claims that the information is "100 thousand-trillion-million percent" accurate.

Wilkerson also claims that, at times, the pain is causing Brees to make mistakes when calling or executing plays, citing unnamed sources in the offensive huddle.

good point. :rocker:

Same Cleveland paper takes a look at the Pats:

Tony Grossi's Scouting Report: New England Patriots | cleveland.com

Other than the Pats special teams, the writer doesn't seem to be too impressed. On offense he says "Don't think they don't miss Randy Moss. They do. Without him, their deep passing game has not been respected" and about the biggest compliment he gives the unit is "they're unpredictable" while stating that "Tate is not there yet" and the "line has struggled at times"; he characterizes the defense as "not fearsome."

Knowing how much BB loves Cleveland sports writers, all I can say is thanks for the bulletin board material.

An Eric Mangini-Bill Belichick thaw? Browns coach would like one, Patriots coach not so much | cleveland.com

This article is just a current rehash of the relationship between Mangini and Belichick; the headline pretty much sums up the slant.

At the end of the column there is a five minute video previewing the game. The first half of the video sums up the column: Mangini wants to make nice with Belichick, BB does not; and a Cleveland writer whining that Belichick does not give writers enough material to work with in his press conferences. After talking about the possibility of Holmgren returning to coaching and whether or not the Browns will draft another QB or if Colt McCoy is their QB of the future, they finally talk about the game in the last 90 seconds of the video. The two seem convinced Rob Ryan will come up with something to disrupt Brady and force the 'unknowns' such as Tate and Woodhead to be the difference makers for the Pats in this game.

well ,whether they misss moss or not , the passing game has been avg recently. both SD and minn initially shut down our short passing game. We got our running game going vs minn and hit some big plays otherwise, the passing game has a lot to improve right now IMO that the defenses have adjusted to taking out the short passes.

Given that Mangini should be very familar with our old style O with Branch and the fact that they have an extra week to prepare for a home game, I am expecting a very close game.

Still think we would come out on the top thanks to our D and ST and not our O.

they also have brad seely, ex-pats ST coach there which could be interesting. in fact the entire staff seems to ex-pats coords-mangini,rob ryan, brian daboll, Brad seely.

I find it hillarious how good some of you guys making this team sound. They are not good. Poor offense and not a good defense. They have a couple "impact" players, but don't we have a few of those too?

I said it a few weeks ago in the revise your prediction thread.

This Browns team is a solid football "team". If anyone thinks otherwise they really should go watch them play.

Hillis has been a beast, Mike Alstott'esq, Cribbs is always a threat both on Offense and Teams. McCoy made his first NFL start on the road in Pittsburgh and went 22-33, 281 1 TD and 2 Int's. Numbers weren't as impressive in the Bayou but he didn't turn it over and the defense had a big day.

They are playing their first game since beating the SuperBowl champs, coming off a bye in front of their home crowd.

I fully expect Brady to go at Wright early and often. He has quit possibly been the worst starting CB in the NFL this year.

With all that said this will be a tough game. If we blow them out then we are much better than I think we are. And I think we are pretty good.

To echo a couple posts, Eric Wright is bad. Really, really bad. Even my 10 year old cousin knows it.

No we suck, we got blown out by NO last season and they recently lost to CLE so we have no chance.

If we don't beat them soundly then we probably aren't very good this year and shouldn't expect to beat either Pittsburgh or Indy.

You couldn't be more wrong.

I think this game will be the one where the Pats break out and play well in all 4 quarters instead of one..

If we get to an early lead in the first quarter, trust Brady and co to really pound them.. I'm expecting a big score from the Pats - a statement win to announce to the rest of the league that this team will be a strong contender and deserving of their current No. 1 position

Does anyone know if Wheatley got in the game at all last week? I did not see him but I noticed he wasnt on the inactives. Checked Reiss's blogs and could only find the offense snap count.

As far as the Browns I really think this is going to be a hard game, maybe the hardest since the Baltimore game. They destroyed the Saints a couple weeks back and have been very close in alot of their losses. Relatively new QB, that always seems to give our D fits and Hillis is no slouch. From what I've read they are good at defending the intermediate pass game, which is a bad matchup for us without a deep threat.

I feel dumber for having listened to what Mark Schlereth had to say about the Patriots not being the best team in football right now. Apparently the Patriots can't run the football. Let's have a look at our net running totals for the season shall we.

1. vs Cincinnati 118
2. vs New York 52
3. vs Buffalo 200
4. vs Miami 119
5. vs Baltimore 127
6. vs San Diego 51
7. vs Minnesota 122

The running game has helped this side achieve a little more parity in running versus passing performance IMO.

Idiots.

Two words that make me feel less nervous about this game: "Billy Yates".

Stop Hillis and make McCoy beat us
