PATS TRADE JAMIE COLLINS!!!

I loved him as a player but are we really about to question BB after 16 years of success? I haven't had time to read all 49 pages of this thread but the first couple were a bunch of people losing their minds. I as a fan disagree with this move... but how can we doubt the best HC/GM of all time? Either something else was going on, or we arent as great at player evaluations as the best NFL coach on the planet. I'm thinking its probably the latter.

This is called maintaining salary cap discipline and keeping a 16 year dynasty going.

But those guys were all traded or released in the offseason or before the draft. Many of us are simply saying, why now?

No its a 3rd compensatory this year. Or a 2018 4th rounder next year.

I'm responding to the guy who said it is conditional. If they end up with a 4th rounder in 2018, that's even worse.

Wow. Brown's gonna Brown. They give up a 3rd. Get a great defensive player for 1/2 a year on a win-less team. And to keep him they're gonna have to break the bank next year. Maybe not the greatest trade in New England history but what the hell Browns? Are you under contract by the NFL to just be a a W on every others teams schedule for the rest of eternity?

And also, lets not forget that BB has always seen a decline in players before we do.
It has happened with all of these other trades we lost our minds over recently too. Maybe he's lost more with the injuries than we're willing to accept.

You absolutely should question BB. No one is beyond reproach.

I don't think this is the deal to question him with but we'll find out

No one's questioning him as a coach. It doesn't hurt to have number 12. Looking at the bigger picture and this defense. Did you say he's the greatest GM of all time? Ok

Why should we after all the years of success? after all the trades we disagreed with and moves we didn't like... and us being proven wrong for the most part... why dont we wait to see if this is one of the few failures or bad decisions before we go too crazy?

Sure. Canton is a fine town. That's not a debate. I grew up in a crap-ass town in NH and Canton blows it out of the water.

Just don't consider it a destination for the lifestyles of the rich and famous.

Of course many Pats make their home in the Attelboros

it's all about the commute. You don't want to be late for practice.

Because no one is above being questioned. Why is what robert is saying so hard to get?

I really don't feel better about it, they have a chance, a really really good chance to go all the way this year. They can use all the great players they can get. They can use depth at line backer or any position who knows who goes down next game or practice.

I just don't like this move. Obviously there is something I don't know. If we lost the compensatory pick because we brought in more players than we lost .. then so what! We lose a 4th rounder that may or may not pan out. But we know for sure that Jamie could help us win another Super Bowl this year.
they obviously know something we don't about collins. I'm not sweating it because most of the time it works out for the team and BB.

I just looked up a list of Bus Cook's client. And wouldn't you know it, Jay f*cking Cutler is one of his clients. No wonder Jay Cutler got that money! Note to dumb QB with a good arm, if you want to make good money, sign with Bus Cook!

there is obviously more to the story here and behind the scenes stuff. BB wouldve waitinted until the end of the season and let him walk and get a 3rd rnd pick if that was the case. clearly they felt he was a detriment to the team on the field and off and they felt he needed to go. if BB felt he was weakening the team he wouldnt have made this move IMO

but, he has had 1 good game out of 8 this year and it was clear that maybe his head wasnt in the game. I would say roberts has been just as good THIS YEAR (not saying career as a whole) its a shame because he has such talent but seems between the ears stuff has held him back

but to ship him out at this point in the season...clearly there was more to the story. and on a related note. for weeks i heard bedard, felger etc. talk about how overrated jamie collins was. now today they are acting as if bb traded jj watt or von miller. collins is a nice linebacker who has talent that only seems to come out in bursts

I doubt BB woke up one day and said "hey, let's release a good player!". There HAS to be more to the story. Either that or BB is actually Roger Goodell in a mask and the real one was abducted..

Good chance Pats would have not even gotten the 3rd round pick
Everyone assumes the #3 but you have to lose more FA than you get for comp picks, it's not a direct substitution and could have limited FA next offseason.

Very very good analysis and the only thing that makes sense, especially that last part.

I would add that even given this I don't think it's the right move. Keeping Collins means having a pass rushing weapon in the bag for obvious pass rushing downs and also the team's best coverage linebacker.

Yeah, I'm not saying I'm sold on the idea. Even if Roberts were passing Collins on the depth chart, I'd still imagine he'd be a heck of a valuable role player. All I can think is that the coaching staff thought that scenario would become a problem.

EDIT: One thing's for certain, Collins hasn't looked anything like the player many were projecting as a potential DPOY. It's mighty disappointing that it all turned out this way.

Yep, that's what I'm thinking. After hearing about this trade my first thought was that it was a huge mistake to not at least keep Collins for the rest of the season to help get Ring #5.

But my second thought was that BB probably expelled more football knowledge in his last BM than I will ever have, so perhaps Bill took everything into consideration before making this trade

No one is perfect, and I'm all for questioning things, but my guess is that Belichick thought this through and maybe knows what he's doing.

Because nobody on this board is qualified to question him. The coaching staff around BB can question him all they want (he encourages that) and I'm sure they have. Go back and watch the "Do your Job" special and realize that few people here understand even 10% of all that goes into BB and this staff's decision making.
