PATS TRADE JAMIE COLLINS!!!

Absolutely. Collins IS a top 10 LB. His problem is inconsistency. If he would play like we've seen him play (More recently, against the Texans) for prolonged period of times, he would be the best LB in the NFL, along with Kuechly. An "almost" 4th rounder for him is absolutely ridiculous.

Put in other terms, would you trade for a Top 10 player with tremendous potential for a compensatory 3rd round pick? Yes, everyone would. But no team in the earth would do this trade. Except the Patriots, apparently
can you sign him after this year is the question

A top 10 LB is not inconsistent. This is what separates tier 2 players from really being game changers. Also you won't get any bigger return for a 8 game contract.

Total gut punch, WTF move. I am at a total loss for words. There HAS to be more to this right? Granted Collins has never been the most consistent player but when he is on....dude is a one man wreaking ball that destroys offenses. Intial thought was a third?!?!?! A third? For the most athletic LB in the NFL all they got was a third?!?!??! Now processing it, its the browns gave up a third for 8 games and the right to franchise him....which seems about right actually. Personally I get the idea of getting at least something for an assest but this is one trade I would have refused to make. There simply has to be behind the scene stuff we aren't hearing. Loved your play Collins, best of luck in your new home but damn it why couldn't you make it work here long term *goes off to drink heavily*

You can post this crap another 10 times and it won't make it any more true. You are not guaranteed any pick if you let your UFAs walk. Given the amount of cap space we will have we might be in for a very active FA period that would prevent any compensatory picks.

This one is guaranteed.

yeah, cause the Pats are always signing high priced free agents to off set whatever Collins would have gotten....

He is so not worth that kind of money. The potential is there for greatness but three and a half years in and he is still rather inconsistent. He was already goner if that's the money he was asking for.

I am mostly concerned about this season. I don't like the thought of jeopardizing our chances by IMO, weakening the defense.

HT is here to stay, hopefully they can get Butler.

When a previous post referenced any other players trying to strong-arm BB, Butler is the name that first came to mind.

I agree that the 'compensatory' element doesn't seem right, particularly as Cleveland aren't projected yo get a 3rd. Alex Mack seems the most likely to be worth a 3rd, but seven players signed for a higher APY thanhim.

but the 'someone' was Adam Schefter and I'd be surprised if he confused compensatory and conditional.

Could be that his source got it wrong. Remember that the NFL doesn't announce the actual transactions until the end of the day..

Terrelle Pryor might have been interesting though.

Ya but no way they were trading him. He's been the one optimistic bright spot for them this year.

Although Lombardi has made it known that If Bill could go back when he had the chance to sign him he would.

In reality, we are getting NOTHING from this trade. Even if Collins walked next season, he would land a big contract, thus we would get a 2018 compensatory pick (Most likely a 3rd round as well...).

This is an abysmal trade, we only got a pick one year sooner. Holy ****.

You know what would be a funny thing : given that Collins has been on the injured report a lot over the last 2 years, if Collins failed his physical with the Browns and the trade was reversed. I wonder what Belichick would say to Collins upon his return (and vice-versa)...
He would probably release him.

I already addressed that in the post you were quoting, so I'm not really sure how you concluded that I forgot it.

The best case that you can make using this logic is that it was worth giving up Collins for the rest of the season and SB run to lock in the end-of-3rd-round pick that we were exceedingly likely to get anyway. Which... no.

It's not that simple. If you lose one $15M FA and sign two $1.5M FAs, no comp picks.

I do agree that there's more to this trade, but I wonder if we'll ever figure out what.

So you glass bowl can predict the FA related future but didn't reveal that Collins would be traded ? I'd return that thing because it seems broken..

Agree they weren't going to trade him. The Browns might have to decide between him and Collins at the end of the year now though. Will be interesting to see if we re-ignite our interest in him if Pryor does become available.

We could have kept Collins for the remainder of the season & let him sign with someone else & we would get a 3rd round comp pick.

All we get for losing Collins for the remainder of the season is a 3rd round comp pick in 2017 instead of 2018

I am personally sad that BB upset the applecart in the middle of the season with this trade. We didnt need more drama. That being said, some of the reactions here like BB is the coach of the browns who havent won anything and dont know anything for the past 2 decades.

sort of feel like I do after a loss.. bummer. Whatever, now let's win the SB

Disagree. Even in his bad days, he would still be a good player (Only good). Combine that with the lack of great ILBs in the league, plus his erratic playing (He could make one incredible play per game, for example) and we have a top 10 LBs.

I hate how people change opinions to fit the narrative around here. Yesterday, Collins was a god player. Now he is worthless (Not saying you did that, but i'm seeing a whole lote of poster who happen to change their minds now)
