PATS TRADE JAMIE COLLINS!!!

So his play sucked but yet they were willing to pay him $11 million a year?
This is the thing. I believe it was the money, for sure. They were willing to give him 11 million per. Hard to believe they'd do that when they lose faith in a guy.

Pats to Browns? Talk about going from the penthouse to the outhouse, an outhouse that's on fire.

Hes a linebacker, is he even a top 10 payer at his position? I actually think they gave us too high of a pick, but I do think we should have kept him, or gotten a player back

He is great

In seven games this year, Collins already has 31 tackles, two interceptions, three pass breakups and a sack. He missed a game against the Bengals back in Week 6 with a hip issue.

What are we getting in return ? Some low 3rd or 4th round pick that may or may not work out. Who is replacing him right now for the rest of the season ? That is what concerns me, not some future pick. The player who comes in has to be a lot better than Collins and help us this season for this to make sense.

You know what would be a funny thing : given that Collins has been on the injured report a lot over the last 2 years, if Collins failed his physical with the Browns and the trade was reversed. I wonder what Belichick would say to Collins upon his return (and vice-versa)...

There isn't a player in the entire league worth 19 mil who isn't playing qb.

Let alone a player who isn't the best defensive player on his own team

That said.. I doubt he was looking for that kind of money

bottom line is the kid was always a freak athlete with freak potential.......and he'd always have a play or two or a game or two where he flashed that potential......but instead of turning himself into an every down, can
take him off the field LB, he began to split time this year, and apparently free-lance

maybe he'll grow up after this move......maybe he'll get his big pay day and fade off into mediocrity

but as we all know, BB don't **** around......all about the team and the team goals or hit the bricks

i trust this was one of those situations where it came down to time to hit the bricks, and this was the market

After reading 18 pages of this thread, I guess the one common theme is nobody saw this coming. When I first heard this, I have to admit i thought we traded Collins for Thomas and a pick...oops lol

Might be good news for both Butler and Hightower.

Wanted too much money and was underperforming. What's not to get?
I don't get letting him go when our LB depth consists of Hightower, Roberts, and pfffffplllllttt. I think they could've sucked it up for the year and just let him walk in FA. He at least was good depth if nothing else

How's that Chandler Jones for Cyrus Jones trade doing? So the 62nd pick in the draft can't get on the field, and they just traded Collins for 97th pick??

What would you rather have Chandler Jones and Collins, or Cyrus Jones and the 97th pick in the 2017 draft?
.
The Patriots traded down from the Cardinals 2nd round pick and acquired a 3rd and a 4th, which were turned into LG Joe Thuney and WR Malcolm Mitchell, Cyrus Jones was taken with their own pick. So they traded 1 year of Chandler Jones for minimum 4 years of Thuney and Mitchell. I think that's a good trade

still trying to wrap my head around this one...

you get a 3rd if you let him walk. keep your best players, win the sb then let him walk.

You can post this crap another 10 times and it won't make it any more true. You are not guaranteed any pick if you let your UFAs walk. Given the amount of cap space we will have we might be in for a very active FA period that would prevent any compensatory picks.

This one is guaranteed.

It's clear that the pats chose Hightower and butler.

That decision doesn't come til AFTER the season! Who knows BB might be working on a package deal that sends Hightower and Butler to Jacksonville for a bag of magic beans

How's that Chandler Jones for Cyrus Jones trade doing? So the 62nd pick in the draft can't get on the field, and they just traded Collins for 97th pick??

I thought the ridiculous trade of Chandler Jones was because the Pats needed to resign Collins and Hightower. What's the rationale for this one? This is even worse than the Chandler Jones trade, which was awful!!

What would you rather have Chandler Jones and Collins, or Cyrus Jones and the 97th pick in the 2017 draft?

You could have kept both of them, then let them walk the Pats would have ended up with the 97th and 98th picks in the 2018 draft.

Well I'd rather have Hightower, Butler and Bennett if given the choice.. Amittedly the Chandler Jones trade doesn't look so hot right now, but we're half a season into Cyrus' career, so who knows.

That's for the 2018 picks, the 2017 picks are out and the Browns have a 2017 #3 for Alex Mack.

You're wrong. Compensatory picks are announced just prior to the draft. The reason being is that they take into consideration how a player played the season before, not just the salary they received. So, teams that lost eligible players during the 2016 Free Agency period would receive their compensation for the 2017 draft provided they didn't sign more eligible Free agents than they lost.

Not sure where you heard that the Browns are getting a 3rd round compensatory pick for Mack because it hasn't been announced by the NFL yet. There are plenty of sites SPECULATING that it might be a 3rd, but OTC speculates that it's a 4th..

Josh Gordon is untradeable because he is banned from the league right now. People need to stop posting this.

Terrelle Pryor might have been interesting though.

Oh man, this ruined my day............

how did this happen?

Why not have him at least play out the remainder of the season? I'm dumbfounded.

Source says Patriots were "having a lot of trouble" in negotiations w/ Collins for a long-term contract. Set to be a free agent this spring
