PATS TRADE JAMIE COLLINS!!!

what team would pay higher for 8 games? Nobody obviously

Got here late. Too bad I missed the meltdown earlier in the thread though - I bet it was an entertaining read.

Basically, it was a game day thread, and has only gotten marginally better.

BB is an idiot don't you know, has no idea how to build a team, or what a player is worth in trade.

The point is not blaming collins. I am guessing that he is saying collins is susepectible to bad play more than most people see it.

Yep, the big completion to Lynch on the wheel route right before the 2min warning in the Superbowl comes to mind. Collins is a great player and a living highlight reel but somehow could never get the consistency needed to truly breakout to be one of the elite LBs.

Not particularly happy about the trade on a sentimental level but seeing the numbers his agent wanted for an extension makes it clear that there was no future anyway.

Have not read 16 pages but initially Im just blown away.

However, upon further review...he has not played "great" except one game. Rumors of a problem child? Signing of Van Noy, roster moves required for guys like Dion or Vollmer?

Also read Collins has been doing what he wants? That would probably be a death bell if true.

Crazy for sure but there is clearly more to this, that we may or may not ever know.

I dont think collins is the missing piece in this defense. But if this effects the locker room morale for hightower and DMac etc then it can be a mess.

If you had told me last year that out of Hightower, Chandler Jones, Dominique Easley and Jamie Collins, only Hightower would be around in October, I would have laughed in your face as a know-nothing.

That's a lot of top draft picks, and then you add the one we didn't have last draft, and it's like 3 no. 1s and a no. 2 of recent years--just gone. Up in smoke.

What do you expect for a guy with 10.5 career sacks. Jamie is a good player, Hes not Kuechly or Miller. The guy is not a corner stone player on a defense.
Oh, i was on the "Collins is not that great" team for a goooood while, but we still got way to little for him. I bet BB had motives that we don't see (Lack of effort, asking too much). But as a team going forward, we are WAY worse without collins.

Look, we were thanking god we found Roberts as a back-up, now we are thin at the position again, with an still unproven rookie there as a starter.

WTH. I don't understand this at all. They would have got a compensatory 3rd round pick if they didn't sign him and would have him for 8 games + playoffs this year. I don't get it.

My favorite memory of Collins is, and forever will be, when he vaulted the line to block the extra point against the Colts last season. I remember vividly that I was at school, watching the game in the library in between class. I had just regained composure after the god-awful fake punt when the Colts were lining up for their extra point on a late TD.

Then he ****ing vaulted the whole ****ing line and blocked the kick with his entire body. He timed it perfectly, and he did it so effortlessly I was in complete awe. It was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen in my life, and it cemented Collins as one of my favorite Patriots immediately.

Jamie, thank you for the tackles, the picks, and the memories. We wish you all the best in Cleveland and where life may take you, and if you don't mind I'll keep you on my Madden roster for now. After all, you have plenty of plays left to make for me there.

Obviously this sudden trade has something to do with a potential disgruntled collins or something of that nature, perhaps the coaching staff was on him about his lack of being a solid contributor as he was in the past and his kind of falling off a bit.

Something sour happened to let him go so early in the season,Belichick was likely so angered at Collins that he called up the worst team in the league in Cleveland to take him and get even with him,Bill is sadistic when you mouth off and this is what you get when you mess with the master.

The Pats have won with injuries galore before, this is not an injury but this can be overcome, one man does not make a whole team, unless his last name is Brady.

it's no wonder elandon roberts got the start yesterday

the pats are now without jamie collins and chandler jones from the 2014 team

still trying to wrap my head around this one...

you get a 3rd if you let him walk. keep your best players, win the sb then let him walk.

so who's gonna play LB now? Just Roberts, Hightower, and Mingo?

This isn't my understanding from reading this very thread. It is apparently a Browns compensatory pick. So it is at the end of the round. Totally different situation.

You might be right about that but lets just wait until the dust settles on the entire trade deadline. It's entirely possible that there are more moves in the making where this 3rd round pick will be used in.

We got nothing to do due to the BYE week anyway..

So in terms of draft picks, you think we should have gotten a 2nd or 1st?

I'm guessing in the coaches' view, Roberts was ready to take playing time out of Collins. Given that it is Collins' last year before free agency, he would not have taken this well, and Belichick traded him before it got to be a distraction.

Otherwise, this trade makes no sense. The Pats are not a better team now that they were yesterday.

Adam schefter says Collins wasn't going to resign...Pats would of got a 3rd round compensatory pick anyhow but im guessing they traded him so he wouldn't be a distraction.

No. There is no guarantee that the Patriots would get a 3rd round Compensatory pick if they lost Collins. They'd only get a compensatory pick if they lost more eligible free agents than they signed.
