PATS TRADE JAMIE COLLINS!!!

There is no guarantee that we'd have gotten a 3rd round pick. Like so many, you forget that the Pats would have had to sign less eligible free agents than they lost for them to be eligible for a comp pick. This guarantees they get a pick in 2017. The other way doesn't.

Exactly! I am listening on the air and they are talking that a third round pick in 2018 was a guarantee.

I am wondering that with the most cap space of the Belichick era this coming offseason, Belichick may actually be a player in free agency like 2003 or 2007.

The compensatory pick is also almost a 4th rounder.

Holy **** guys, what the ****.

What do you expect for a guy with 10.5 career sacks. Jamie is a good player, Hes not Kuechly or Miller. The guy is not a corner stone player on a defense.

I was starting to get the feeling that we wouldn't keep both Collins and Hightower. I don't think BB was very keen to spend 24 or more millions on just two linebackers.
With that said, this was not even close to how I thought it would go down.

This is ridiculous. Why would they trade him ? This is one of those times that I do not agree with BB.

IF true they offered him $11 million. Obviously we don't know the exact conditions, but Kuechly got $12 million per. Wagner a shade under $11 million per. $11 million would have been very fair.

Still, I prefer they'd just keep him to ride out the season. We are the #1 contender for the Super Bowl, why make that trade?

I think Bill had every intention to keep Jamie for the season. He knows damn well a motivated all-in Jamie Collins makes this defense better.

You have to wonder if they had a sit-down with Jamie and had a frank conversation about where they go from here.

Big assumption on my end but I tend to believe that Jamie told BB he'd have trouble focusing and playing to his potential and Bill sent him packing.

1) Collins play has been declining.

2) Collins has been injured.

3) Collins thinks he's worth $14M a year.

4) Collins has been splitting time with Roberts.

5) No one would pay more than Cleveland.

6) Would the patriots trade a 3rd for 4th to get a underperforming former pro-bowler for 8 games?

7) It is by no means certain that we won't sign more free agents than we lose.

8) The defense needs to play with desire to win, not desire to do well enough this week to earn $14M.

9) and yes, of course, there may be more that we don't know.
=====
BOTTOM LINE
No team would pay a 2nd to get an underperforming, injured Collins for 8 games.

According to reports, Collins was looking for $19M, not $14..

Considering that compensatory picks aren't handed out until a few weeks before the draft
That's for the 2018 picks, the 2017 picks are out and the Browns have a 2017 #3 for Alex Mack.

Did Jamie beat somebody up or something? I'm still trying to make sense of everything

As a senior, Collins led So. Miss to an 0-12 record. He may lead the Browns to a winless season this year. Would he be the first in history to achieve this feat in college and the NFL?

Watch Felger say he likes this trade because the public opinion is against it. "Belichick realized his mistake that he took a bust and fixed it..."

Not that I would pretend to know what was really happening as to why he was traded, but it definitely has me scratching my head...

According to overthecap, the Browns don't have a compensatory 3rd rounder. They are generally pretty accurate about these things, so I wonder if the compensation has been misreported.

Considering that Compensatory picks aren't handed out until a few weeks before the draft, it's pure speculation on their part. That being said, yes, they are pretty accurate. Furthermore, i wouldn't put it past someone to have confused Compensatory with Conditional.

What do you guys think Belichick thinks of players that don't do their job?

IE: If the "free-lancing" (and being ineffective at it) tweets from Lombardi etc are true.

Madden fans are spitting feathers everytime they turn the game on LOL

Obviously this sudden trade has something to do with a potential disgruntled collins or something of that nature, perhaps the coaching staff was on him about his lack of being a solid contributor as he was in the past and his kind of falling off a bit.

Something sour happened to let him go so early in the season,Belichick was likely so angered at Collins that he called up the worst team in the league in Cleveland to take him and get even with him,Bill is sadistic when you mouth off and this is what you get when you mess with the master.

The Pats have won with injuries galore before, this is not an injury but this can be overcome, one man does not make a whole team, unless his last name is Brady.

Considering that compensatory picks aren't handed out until a few weeks before the draft and most predictions don't have them receiving a 3rd round compensatory pick, someone probably confused Compensatory with Conditional.. The Browns currently have multiple 3rd round picks. It's much more likely that the pick will be based on how Collins plays for them.

I agree that the 'compensatory' element doesn't seem right, particularly as Cleveland aren't projected yo get a 3rd. Alex Mack seems the most likely to be worth a 3rd, but seven players signed for a higher APY thanhim.

but the 'someone' was Adam Schefter and I'd be surprised if he confused compensatory and conditional.

at least get joe thomas in return...

Despite the low number of points, the defense has certainly been criticized by many who have watched. BB has his ideas about how to improve it. He must think this is addition by subtraction.
