Pats to play in Old England in '06?

The NFL has been forced to abandon the UK in NFLE. Bringing a real game to the UK would help restir interest, I suppose.

As regards the time and distance questions, this is little problem. Hopping a plane from Boston to London East, or LA West, is about the same time in the air. As far as broadcasting it would actually be beneficial. A 1:00 PM Sunday kickoff in London would be just right for "Sunday Night Football" in the USA.

Actually it goes the other way with the time change. A 1 PM Sunday kickoff in London would be 7 AM for those of us on the east coast. So if they played the London game as a night match (say 8 PM), then it would be 2 PM here on the east coast.

the athomsfera for one NFL game in Wembley will be exciting

i am sure many many fans will arrive from everywhere and it will be a sold out in my opinion...

so: let's wait the confirmation and i hope that NE will play in Uk !

If they were going to take away a home game I kinda wish they had told us season tix holders before I paid the bill for 10 (30) home games this week. The extra $267 would be well spent on my part.

SF vs. AZ in Mexico City last year? Even though they may not seem as "important" as N.E. to us, they are division rivals.

OK, I'm British and I think the whole idea sucks. I can just about get my head around the game in Mexico last year, which after all does border Arizona, but playing an NFL regular season game on the other side of the Atlantic would just be lunacy for all sorts of reason:

1. Why should ANY team's loyal fans be deprived of one of only 8 home games? Why should any team look back at the end of the season and think 'If we had played that game at home, we probably would have won and made a wild card'?

2. If the idea of playing a game from the Premiership (soccer) in the USA was mooted, there would be uproar in England - and English soccer teams get an absolute minimum of 19 home games per season. Sport is ultimately about the fans IN the stadium... people will say, 'No, it's about TV', but nobody wants to watch a game played in an empty stadium. The fans who go through the gate are the most important.

3. The NFL is a great league, and should show more respect for it's own prestige, history, teams and fans, rather than whoring itself out in the hope of selling a few more 'Vick' shirts in other territories.

4. Finally, it just won't work. Britain has it's own, incredibly-firmly entrenched national sport, played at the same time of year as the NFL. American football has no chance of making a significant impact on the nation's sporting psyche. I truly don't think that the effects of playing a game at Wembley (creating perhaps a few thousand more long-term fans of the sport) are worth it.


But if it happens, regardless of who plays, will I be there? HELL YES!

The Patriots would have no incentive to do this, except as PR if Kraft ever pulls the trigger on trying to acquire controlling interest in Liverpool FC. Even then, he'd have Belichick pissed off about the disruption to the team.

That's a great point. It seems the NFL is confusing ratings with loyal fans. They are NOT one and the same.

Not really. East coast teams are in the air as long or longer when they travel to Seattle as they do to London.

I do agree from the POV that I have a 'not my team' attitude. Look at the teams that have gone overseas the last few years. It seems to kill their early season chances, having to adjust to jet lag, etc. If they do it, you know the two teams involved will both have their bye weeks after the game, screwing up their best chance for a mid-season break.

I'm fine with a NFL game in Europe. Every corporation has to globalize. It's the "in" thing.

On one condition, they can do with with any team EXCEPT the Pats.

I would be ticked off by losing a home game. Also ticked off due to the disruption caused by travel to the team even if we don't lose a home game.

We need a plain jane schedule this season. I don't think there are any long west coast trips for 2006.

This is looking like another way for the NFL to make things harder for the Pats.

Yup....be pissed for sure. Nothing against the very loyal English fans the Pats have...but with so few games at home its a bad idea.
