Pats TE without Gronk could be good.

While I am keeping my hopes reserved, I would love to see Fauria given a shot. The streak he had two years ago was epic: one of every three catches a td. I'd love to see him with the goat and what may happen.

The goat probably won't want to deal with Fauria as he's new and hasn't proved himself, but the possibility is still enticing....

I doubt both those move TEs stick on the roster. Williams would be in the three tight end set. I think you overrate the TE talent around the league, lots of first rounders have busted, not to mention average 2nd and third TEs.

This is the forum who would have cut LaFell, Amendola and Edlman at one time.

Asante Cleveland has legitimate skills and toughness. He's the one pick up that piqued my interest when they grabbed him after the 49ers released him in September. His measurables are similar to Aaron Hernandez (minus the life-in-prison complication and pending double murder trial.) Keep an eye on him.

Cleveland might spend a serious amount of time on the field on Sunday if he and Brady have had a chance to get in some reps. The Eagles are awful against tight ends, so this might be a spot to target him five or six times to see what's what.

Did Ian give RayClay dislike immunity? Jk.

Chandler was only a reliable receiver in buffalo against US. He is an average receiver. He drops the ball even when he's open. I still like him but I hold my breath every time he's targeted.

I'm sure they'll find a good way to use him or find a way to get him open but catching the ball is all 100% on chandler and if there's a quote that is perfect for chandler it is:

first line, I was surprised myself. Yes, Chandler is an average receiver. He is 6'7" and has averaged about 45 catches a year and he's a good red zone target. We've got a good blocking tight end and if one of the move tight ends can be decent we could be good, that's all I said.

We could be average or worse, but i don't expect chandler to never be able to catch a ball again, just as I winced at what seemed like half a dozen drops by LaFell knowing he had been a reliable receiver after a rough start previously.

Words have meaning. Could or might be good is not a ringing endorsement, nor does it mean I expect our TEs to carry the load. Hopefully the receivers do and we have a TE in the end zone who was a decent NFL player and two role players, all to be used on occasion.

It would be nice if he started, you know, fighting for the ball. I don't know how to explain a 6'7" tight end who gets beat by a 5'11" cornerback for the ball...or can't jump.

The explanation used to be Ben watson, minus the inches, plus the jumps, but my point isn't that he's played well. My point is he has played well on an NFL level for a while and he's wicked tall.

New system, way down the list after being a starter? Excuses don't matter. He either grabs this opportunity, or he's a low risk failure. I expect him to be a tall guy who's a red zone threat, again. That's all.

The mystery to me is the move TE, which seems Cleveland's job to lose.

I don't like these type of generalizations. There were also people who wanted to keep Bledsoe over Brady and they didn't represent this forum either.

An average TE will benefit from the system and, oh by the way, having the greatest QB in history throwing to him. I am optimistic that Chandler is average.

(I know the above seems like a backhanded compliment, but I am trying to be sincere. If he is average, we'll be OK)

Fair enough. There were lots of posters who wanted to cut Amendola and LaFell. Less with Edleman, but still a bunch.

Pretty much what I'm saying. If he's average, but 6'7" or above average for someone 6'7", doesn't matter to me as long as he makes some key plays in the red zone.

Cleveland is not a Move TE; he's a POA FB/TE.

And expecting Scott Chandler to produce More, now that defenses don't have to cover Gronk? Please.

Eh....I don't think so. They'll probably be just okay.

Chandler is a good receiving TE, except when the ball is thrown to him. He's the only player on the team who is better on paper than on the field.

While I'm not expecting Chandler to shake his negative rep here, I am expecting him to produce at a higher level in the next 2-3 games that he's likely to see more targets.

Not sure where Williams and Cleveland fit into this equation because it's highly unlikely that it's through the passing game. That said, we need to get the run game going, so any actual blocking in the trenches is appreciated, and it's possible that's where they make their mark.

After the Denver game need to use Chandler differently, there is little hope for him on deep sideline pass patterns, use him in a more traditional way that he is comfortable with...

The game plan last week that included those deep sideline passes should have been abandoned after the first attempt.. not after the 6th..

Bad play calling for him last week..

Thanks RC. I guess I just don't like being lumped in with them.

Aside from passing, i think our TE's are good at blocking which should help the run game.

Actually, Gronk is the Pats best blocker. Chandler is generally considered to be a bad blocker. Personally, and I hope I east these words, but the Pats offense has looked dis-jointed without Lewis, and now without JE and Gronk, I am worried.

Scott Chandler

Voted ~ by his Colleagues ~ Most Average Tight End In The Galaxy ~ 4 Years in a row.

So we got that going for us.

Which is nice.

not gonna be pretty watching tom force the ball to chandler.
hope they abandon the go routes on the sideline...scott's too ****ing slow

I disagree that Chandler is "average." He isn't much of a blocker, so just in comparing pass catching specialist TEs, there are over 20 that are easily better than him. He is more of a decent backup or borderline starter than a solid starter, which is what average would imply.
