From Notre Dame:

Pros: Stevenson is a durable, intelligent interior blocker with good size and technique. He has some versatility, can move his feet, gets good positioning and will sustain his blocks well. He anchors well and shows a good hand punch when pass blocking. His strength translates well to the playing field, mainly because of his sound technique. He is a tough, physical player that displays good football intelligence and savvy. His well-rounded skills should enable him to compete for a roster spot in the NFL and possibly challenge for a starting job over his career.

Cons: He will give up too much ground in pass protection at times and does not consistently drive defenders off the ball. He is not a tough, physical type. He needs to show more of a mean streak. He has only marginal athletic ability. On the move, he lumbers to get to the outside and lacks ability to adjust to movement downfield.

Numbers: At the Combine he ran the 40-yard dash in 5.42 seconds with a 24.5” vertical jump and an 8’4” broad jump. He did 24 reps of the 225-pound bench press.

How the hell did we take Seymour over Terrell??????????????

War Room analysis
Strengths: Is tall with a wide wingspan. Has some quickness and shows very good technique. Gets set quickly in pass protection. Has average upper-body strength and uses his arms to keep separation. Has good initial pop.

Weaknesses: Must add bulk and improve his lower-body strength. Struggles in run blocking. Will have trouble anchoring against the more powerful bull rushers. Is not an explosive athlete. Must play with more of a mean streak.

Bottom line: Stevenson was part of an offensive line that helped lead the team’s resurgence. He is a smart player with good technique but must improve his bulk and strength. He probably won’t be drafted but should get a camp invitation.

Dan Pompei analysis
Is tough, and competes hard. Is durable. Shows strong hands, and uses them well. Shows good footwork, but lacks the speed to reach the second level. Could show more athleticism. Plays a little straight-legged. Has experience at tackle.

I think they took him over Matua because Stevenson is a) a Notre Dame guy and Charlie probably recommended him and b) has experience at tackle.

NEM was right. Check the scouting report I just edited my first post with.

So which is it...is he tough and physical or not?

Nice catch!

(of course, with my rose-colored glasses and all, I didn't even read the cons yet)

At this stage of the draft, BB is networking with his budddies, building relationships for the future. He drafts Mincey and Stevenson as favors to Meyer and Weis. It is good business. And if one of the picks hits, even better.
