Wait, no.... wrong DJ....

Re: Pats sign TE D.J. Williams

They needed a body for a while. This guy fits. If Moeaki gets healthy, we should consider.

One of Mallett's favourite receivers at Arkansas.

But cut by the Jaguars so you know..

I've been wondering if Hoomanawaui would be headed to I.R. since he got hurt. I guess we will soon find out.

This makes the most sense, and is sort of where I thought it was headed as soon as he left that game with a "questionable [to return]" knee injury, but until I see it, I'm going to really hope not. We could use the Hooman.

So, it appears that either OHOH is going to remain out or the team's had enough of Mulligan...

Or Williams is here for one week and Justin Green goes back to PS, since Talib, Arrington, and Dennard were all able to play...

"Release: Good initial quickness off the snap and lateral agility to gain a quick release when not pressed at the line. Can struggle to gain clearance when he is pressed due to his lack of bulk and strength. Has good straight-line speed to challenge down the seam.

Hands: Reliable hands. Can extend outside of his frame and pluck the ball out of the air. Protects the ball by allowing it into his chest when in traffic. Can take a hit and hang on. Good, not great leaping ability and can be pushed aside in jump-ball situations. Can track the ball over either shoulder.

Route running: Possesses good straight-line speed to force defenders on their heels, and has the balance and burst to create separation as a route-runner. Good, sharp cuts laterally. Sells his route with fakes and good body lean."

Ya but the 2nd or 3rd TE doesn't really have to do a lot in the offense except be okay at blocking and have the ability to catch a ball once or twice a game, if that.

Ironic (or perhaps simply trivial), when Williams was cut by Jacksonville he was replaced by another former Patriot, albeit a guy that was with the Pats for only about a week, and only on the practice squad: Kerry Taylor.

Speaking about the practice squad, the Pats now have an opening there; Miami signed DT A.J. Francis off the New England practice squad to their roster.

The Miami Dolphins on Tuesday signed defensive tackle A.J. Francis, a training-camp prospect who Miami had hoped to keep on their practice squad back in the summer.

The Patriots ultimately claimed Francis to their active roster, blocking the Dolphins from keeping the undrafted rookie in town.

However, he never played a game with New England and ended up on the Patriots’ practice squad. That made Francis available to the Dolphins this week, who formally cut Isaako Aaitui and D.J. Campbell on Tuesday.

So I wonder why he hasn't caught on. He sounds pretty good.

He could play the Hernandez role.

Seems pretty fast for a TE

He hasn't caught on because he sucks. He couldn't get it done with Rodgers, so it's not as if the fault is all about Gabbert.

Maybe he'll turn things around in N.E.. It's far more likely that he'll just continue to suck.

...based on his stats over the past three years, that would be "ability to catch a ball once or twice a season."

Does that mean Hooman to IR? Even if not IR, this can't mean anything good for him. Maybe out for a while or until the playoffs?

How good is A.J. Francis?
