-- Unconscious fumble recovery (touched ball while out of bounds) vs Bills
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST PLAY IN PATRIOTS HISTORY, especially as IIRC it happened in OT and a Bill had picked up the ball and run it in for a TD. Called back and next play Antowain goes for about 50 yards into FG range.

My three favorite Patten Pats memories:
-- TD vs Rams in SB 36
-- TD from Bledsoe in AFCCG vs Steelers
-- Unconscious fumble recovery (touched ball while out of bounds) vs Bills

Nice memories for me as well

Well, I don't care if he was signed to mentor or catch balls when unconscious. If it gives them a shot to win the SB, the Pats can sign my grandma also. Just kidding..., about my grandma.

Doesn't Patten belong to an elite group of guys who ran, caught and also threw a TD in a single game?

Patten scored the only offensive TDs in both the 2001 AFC Championship and Super Bowl.

Also, David Patten is a year younger than Terrell Owens.

I guess Fred Coleman wasn't available.

Can Branch be far behind? Yes, probably very far.

In 2001 Patten really did have an extra gear where he could pull away from people. I highly doubt he still has that. But he seems like a high character guy and if he can be a mentoring # 5 WR it doesn't hurt anything. If he's supposed to be the # 2 or 3, that could hurt.

Nice. When will they be bringing in Shawn Jefferson?

Holy Sht Jefferson was badass!!
Michael Timpson..How about Vincent Brisby?
The Steamer!!!

Heheheh

On a side note, I think he fights for a job, and maybe wins one as WR5, I'm betting $ that he's still a better player than Stanback, Slater, or Aiken because he knows where the soft spots are, those other guys are too dumb to read a defense, and run through the soft spots right into the teeth of the defense (Tate gets a pass now ONLY because he was hurt, I'm not expecting much from him though TBH).

Bah, give him a shot to prove what he has in PS, and see if the young clowns can even hold his jock.,as stated he'll at least challenge the guys to act professional and force them to give effort or get embarrassed by an old man.
Nothing bad can come of this IMO.

The way I look at it, at the very least he is going to be able to come in there and instill the leadership values that he possesses to the younger receivers such as Edelman, Tate, and whomever else we decide to draft (if we go that way). At the very most, he's a WR4 who knows the system, already has a rapport with Brady, and should be able to get open on the underneath routes.

Chief, show'em how.

If this is a joke, its not funny

If this is real, BB really needs to stop the hire the old guy at value sh!t...its not working

Moss better be the oldest WR on this team opening day.....seriously

Maybe we should see what JR Redmond is doing nowadays as well.....

I don't get why everyone knocks these sort of signings.

#1. Belichick obviously felt this was enough of low risk potential reward move to sign him.

#2. What do the Pats have to lose? Even in a capped year it's likely a low limited guarantee salary (if any).

Aside from the "I told you so (he wasn't going to make the team)" chortle, why knock such a move? There's no downside, and he might provide some depth in case of injury - or a shadow roster player later if he's still in decent shape.

He obviously had enough of a rapport with Brady to make himself useful as a WR when he was here. You can't say that for every player in the league - let alone every player currently on the Pats.

Why knock the move? Why knock any move in February before free agency starts?

The #1 Constructive Criticsim that everyone has about the 2009 Pats is that they lack leadership and character. Belichick then signs a quality locker room presence and suddenly everyone's more of an expert than our GM/Coach and thinks they know better.

I don't get it.

I wonder where Larry Wiggins is now and if he's in shape? Was money in the snow bowl!

Reality says when a WR reaches 35 he is nothing more than a roster filled spot

Look at 2 of the greatest WRs of all time...Jerry Rice and Marvin Harrison, both hit the wall in thier mid 30s and these two will never be mentioned in the same sentence as Patten.

I loved what Patten offered us as a mid 20s WR,I think this is fodder time for BB more than anything.

Marvin Harrison hit a wall with his knee.

Jerry Rice had 1139, 1211 and 869 Yards receiving at ages 40-42 .

Hopefully, they run Patten into a wall.

David Patten = Dog-Faker

If he can catch a football in practice I don't see how he could be any worse than Aiken, Stanback or those other guys who are so bad I can't remember their names

Even if he runs a 5.5 forty he couldn't be worse than them

You just keep posting stupid stuff again and again. Patten was let go because, by the end of the 2004 season, he was riding the bench behind Givens and Branch.

And yes, He could be worse than Aiken and Stanback.
