Pats should continue to own AFC for few more years

$20m in cap hits over 2 years for a pro bowl corner in today's market makes him tradeable not expendable.

He will be 33 a few weeks after next season ends. He's nearing the age when many corners start to lose a step and he is injury prone. Can't imagine there would be much of a trade market for him if the Broncos asking price is higher than a third round pick or low second rounder.

We talked about this at my home a few days ago,I think we all agreed that if Tom gets this 6th ring next weekend that there is a decent chance that he does hang it up...not because he is tired with Football but because Gisele and his kids and time to spend with them might over take his love for the game,as they should.

Gisele wanted him to retire after the 2016 season and I would think it might come up again.

We of course all hope not but stranger things have happened and nothing lasts forever.

That would be pretty low after they traded Jimmy G in large part because he's been talking about playing until he's 45. I really don't see him doing that to us

The thing is, all of their best players are young and on rookie contracts. They make a run at some veteran QB and they're a much bigger challenge to New England than Pittsburgh or any of the others. It would have to be Kirk Cousins, I think. Alex Smith would be an upgrade but I don't know if he has that "dog" in him for the postseason.

I think Pittsburgh loses Bell and Ben finally starts showing his age.

2018 Jags:

Calais Campbell 32 years old, 17.5 million

Malik Jackson 27 years old, 15.5 million

AJ Bouye 27 years old signed as free agent, on the books for 15.5 million a year for the next 4

Marcelle Dareus 28 years old, cap number doubles to 10 million and balloons to 15 million in 2020

Telvin Smith 27, goes from less than a million to nearly 11 million

Jalen Ramsey- young and cheap at around 6 or 7million per, but will be a free agent after the 2019 season.

Jags are pretty significantly invested in that defense with about 40% of their cap tied up in just a handful of defensive players. They can shed 19 million in cap space by cutting Bortles and another 10 million if they cut Dareus. Either way, they will have some difficult choices in the near future.

If the Jags can get themselves a pretty good QB in the offseason they could make a more serious run.

That's big "if". The Jags are conservatively run. They got here this year WITH Bortles showing massive growth the last 8 games. My opinion is they stick with the pimply girl they brung to the sock hop and leave Cinderfella Cousins looking for another carriage out of the ball.

I certainly never meant to imply anyone would give up the farm for Talib, only that he had value and Denver would be highly unlikely to cut him. Personally with that contract and his other issues I think they'd do very well to get more than a mid 3rd but that's not bad.

We hope not,but the bond between a Father and in this case his 3 kids is unlike anything else...he's almost gone from them most of the winter months with many games on the road and maybe as they get a little older they need him more at home....I,like yourself and others would be very sad almost to the point of tears but I would realize this is still a husband and father first before he is an NFL Quarterback and any decision he makes after this game whether its to continue or not should be respected and understood by Patriots Nation
