Re: Pats schedule [merged]

A lot of you are saying that this is a tough schedule, but I actually like it. Some of the things I like...

1. We get the Jets early, in week two, when they will have to play without Santonio Holmes and Edwards. Also, it will be a 4:15 game.

2. @Miami game is in early October and is a prime time Monday night game, so heat shouldn't be a factor for the team (though the humidity might).

3. Vikings and Packers games are at home.

4. Jets @ Pats is a Monday night game.

5. We're playing Thanksgiving. :rocker:

6. Dolphins have to come to Gillette in early January.

Some things I don't like...

1. Really early bye week.

2. Having to go to San Diego then coming back to play the Vikings the next week (assuming Favre returns).

3. Brutal middle part of the schedule which sees the Pats go to Pittsburgh, then come back to play the Colts, then Thanksgiving, then a division game against the Jets.

:agree:

SD, and Vikes......other than that, i like this schedule

Re: Pats schedule [merged]

My 2 cents...

considering the tough strength of schedule...I think it is a good schedule for Pats. With the level of opposition, there was no way NEP would not have had a difficult stretch of several weeks of tough opposition.

So then comes the question - when is the 'best ' time to have the difficult stretch of games: Early season, middle or end of season?

My theory is that the best time would be middle of season (just as the schedule works out to be).

Reason being: I don't want the difficult patch of games at the end of the season when the Vets are beat up/ worn down and also the rookies have already 'hit the wall' which you hear every rookie say. Furthermore I reason that this year in particular , BB will have to rely on rookies more than in years past (due to many reasons which have been well posted in many threads).

Not only these upcoming draft rookies, but also I am grouping other existing Pats as rookies as they have never come close to practicing / playing for even half a season (let alone a whole one): McKenzie, Tate, Crable - all 3 at positions of need.

And I don't want the difficult patch of games to come at the beginning of the season, as it will take some time for these rookies to get used to real NFL game experience, build some confidence, be slowly worked into the mix.

So I like that our early schedule - though not a cake walk- it has some winable games to build momentum, team chemistry, and the middle is tough , and the final end of season games feature several teams that could easily be out of the playoff picture by then and not much to play for. Namely Detroit, Chicago (3rd best in division), Buffalo, and Miami might be out by the 17th week as well (hopefully).

Anyway, that is my reasoning - although I have been accused of being a Homer before.

Chalk up Halloween as a loss.

I think we are 2-5 on Halloween.

Re: Pats schedule [merged]

Tough schedule.
Interesting how the Patriots never have back to back home games.
Early bye is ridiculous and very unfair for all the teams that have it scheduled before week 7.
Don't know why the NFL doesn't tweak that scheduling. It's like having our employers mandate that we take our annual vacation in March.
Playing on Thanksgiving does give the team a mini-break at the end of November.
Patriots have a much easier end-of-schedule than the Super Bowl favored Jets.
Can't wait.

Re: Pats schedule [merged]

I like Miami early in oct and in night time... , Jets early is ok but its 5 years in a row we played them week 1 or 2, ( week 1 was 07)... Pitt on Monday night is no treat, Oct is brutal, but have 2 weeks to prepare for the Ravens, 11-5 is not impossible but all is key on sweeping the jets, split with the fish, and sweeping the bills..

Thx for pasting the schedule in.

Don't Likes:
1) Early Bye (why don't they just give every team week nine off? I know: TV Contract);
2) No back to back home games;
3) Pittsburgh and Indy back to back;
4) Four Prime Time games and three at 4:15 (why can't we just play at 1PM on Sundays and be done with it?);
5) Thanksgiving Game on four days rest at Detroit against a team for whom this might be their SB.

Likes:
1) Two of last three at home, sandwiched around trip to Buffalo where we haven't lost in ages...chance to end strong and means we're still in it even if we're 7--6;
2) Only one trip to the Left Coast and it's early, followed by home game;
3) Home against Ravens after Bye;
4) Miami in Foxboro in January;
5) Don't have to play in Jets home opener and might catch them on a let down after all the hype;
6) Ten days rest for Jets Home Game (even tho they play on Thanksgiving too, I still like it).

Don't Bye:
All this stuff about "Strength of Opponents Records from Prior Year;" it's a new season.

Bottom Line:
Not great, not bad; we've had worse schedules.

Re: Pats schedule [merged]

interesting we have 5 cold weather games to close out the season.

Re: Pats schedule [merged]

People here assuming Miami will be easy are wrong. Miami is going to be tough.

The only teams that suck are the Lions, Bills, and Browns. Everyone else is tough.

For #3, having Pittsburgh and Indy back to back doesn't bother me that much anymore. Roethlisberger might not be in the starting line-up. Sure, that defense is good but without Big Ben-d Over, Pittsburgh shouldn't be able to win that game. As for #4, for those of us outside of New England without Sunday ticket, that's a great thing. It means less time of me watching the game on some sh!tty internet streams. Sure, the middle is brutal and there aren't back to back home games, but there are a lot of things to like about this schedule. Another one to lump in there is that we get to play Indy at home this year. BWAAHAHAHAHA!!

Re: Pats schedule [merged]

I didn't read the whole thread, so I'm not sure if this was already brought up:

Looking at this schedule from an out-of-towner's perspective these games look like they are nationally televised (depending on which network has the rights to broadcast the 4:00 game.) Did I miss any? It's pretty crazy that 7 out of our 9 nationally televised games are away.

2 @ Jets
4 @ Fins
7 @ Chargers
8 @ Vikings
10 @ Steelers
11 @ Colts
12 @ Lions
13 vs Jets
15 vs Packers

Yeah, I think on balance it's not too bad. I'm outside NE without a dish as well but I like it when we fly under the radar screen.

How about 28 teams get week 8 off. The remaining 4 play Saturday and Sunday afternoon games in a foreign country. The next week those 4 get their bye. This forces fans to watch the foreign games enhancing TV revenue and everybody gets a mid season bye and the 4 teams get a rest from the travel. (they may have to make it 6 teams to accommodate MNF)

True, though with one caveat. NFL rules dictate that when the local team is playing at home, there can be no other NFL games televised in that area at the same time as that local game. Also if a road team is on the same network at the same time, then that area is going to be shown the local team on the road.

In other words in week 2 when the Pats play the Jets it cannot be shown in San Diego or Washington, who both have home games at the same time. Also Jacksonville will surely get the Jags at Chargers game instead since both the Jags and Pats are on the same network at the same time.

Same situation week 7 in Seattle, Denver and Oakland when the Pats play San Diego. In week 8 San Diego, Arizona, Oakland, Seattle and Tampa Bay will all be shut out from the Pats - Vikings game.

playing at Thanksgiving is VERY ok for me too

One of the games we will have a chance to go to this year will be the Colts/Pats game. I can't wait for that.
