It’s no mystery, very easily explained by the OC’s mentality. It’s the playcalling. He goes into a mode of trying to play safe and burn clock. It’s the offensive equivalent of the prevent defense. And like that defense it’s best at preventing wins.
Sensible.. it's like JMD is calling plays not to score.. it's been a thing all season. The offenses job is to move the ball and score.

So I got a story on that. My buddy that is related or whatever with him went up to the game last Sunday. Had dinner with Mapu afterwards. He specifically asked him about getting burned on that play. Evidently they were supposed to be in a cover 2 defense and he expected the Safety to be back there to also cover, obviously that didn’t happen.
It is not one play. Mapu seems to have been out of place on a lot of plays over the season, the Pats specifically drafted him to be in place. It looks like Mapu was too shallow.

Having said that, why the Pats played a soft zone in that situation is infuriating. I hate analytically-based ****y football strategies.

Patriots defense....cooks destroyed us, Henry will also.

maybe Muma can do better.
It is 14 games into a 17 game season. When do you think this emergence will happen? No-one has supported Mapu more than me.

I think you are completely wrong. Both the offense and defense went soft in the 2nd half. That means it is on Vrabel. Vrabel listens to Stretch too much and plays to the analytics. I hate analytics-based ****y football.

Passing was the difference.

Allen threw for 3 TDs and Maye threw for 0 TDs.

Maye still has 0 - 4th quarter comebacks to his name. He got the ball down 35 - 31 with 6:48 in the 4th and went 3 and out. Again, Maye got the ball with 2:43 and 3 timeouts still down 35 - 31 and went 4 and out. Maye completed 1 pass in both series for 5 yards.

Allens QBR was 123 and Mayes was 63.

The good news is that Jackson isn't the passer that Allen is.

You obviously forgot about the drive late in the 4th quarter Maye put together by putting the team on his back and leading them to a game winning FG vs Buffalo in week 5.

Josh has ALWAYS had a very cautious approach when in the red zone. He plays it safe and IMO TB pushed past that. This is a function of being too careful. I've always taken red zone issues as the bad that comes with the good.

Did Vrabel listen to stretch when they were up 21-0? I think your actually wrong. Stretch is his earnie Adams. Earnie adams was the analytics guy before the NFL even thought to do so.. I'll agree that both the offense and defense went soft like an Asian hooker who's ****y stinks..

I think Stretch and Vrabel are much more into analytics than BB and Ernie Adams. Much more.

How do you lose the largest lead ever at Gillette stadium? By going soft on offense and blaming JMD? No, by going soft on offense and defense. It is on Vrabel. The head coach lost that game.

I really liken This game to the game at Pittsburgh in 2018. Pats coming off a bad loss and a blown lead to Miami. Pats went into a hostile environment in Pittsburgh against a team that had to win to stay alive in the playoffs/division race. Actually same exact spot in the season, third to last game. Pats only scored 10 and lost 17-10. Lots of folks wrote them off for dead after losing two games in a row so late in the season and looking bad in doing so. We know they went on to win the whole thing.
Baltimore HAS to win. The Patriots have to play a near perfect game to win. The desperate team with everything on the line usually wins these games.
