Pats Next Opponent: Tampa Bay Bucs

It must be something with the NFC South as I don't mind the Saints, Bucs or Falcons. Should be a good game. Looking forward to seeing Freeman play (given the Jets could have had him without trading away their future).

The year the Pats played the NFC South I thought the best weeks of fan interaction here that season were the two weeks Saints and Falcon fans were here and people talked about the two teams and the upcoming games. On the other hand I don't recall even one single Bucs or Panthers fan coming here to talk. I would presume that's due to how the teams were doing at the time; Saints and Falcons had good seasons that year, the Bucs and Panthers did not.

If anybody is looking for more info on the Tampa football team, here are five sites: the Bucs section from the regions two biggest newspapers, their two biggest fan sites, and the team web site.

Was a little lost here?

Was a little lost here?

Typo; fingers not typing what the brain was thinking.

Saints and Falcons had good seasons that year; we had intelligent, quality conversations with their fans. Bucs and Panthers did not have as good a season in '09; not a single one of their fans showed up here to talk.

Or maybe there are simply more Saints and Falcons than there are Bucs or Panther fans, I don't know.

It does seem to me that when fans are confident, they'll talk - not just smack talk, but intelligent conversations. When they're less confident about their team, they tend to not talk as much. Probably due in large part because they assume the opposing fan base will talk smack to them, and based on their team's performance they don't have much of a response, especially when they're outnumbered.

Example: Viking fans descended en masse here when the Pats traded Randy Moss to Minnesota, confidently declaring 'thank you for handing us the Super Bowl'. But then a month later during the week leading up to the Pats-Vikings game, not a peep here from a single one of them.

Is McCourty and Bodden playing together in this game?

I would assume they'll both start, though I don't know how long to expect them to stay in the game. Neither is hurt and they have both been getting 1st-string reps in training camp.

Looks a little cloudy in Tampa right now. Late afternoon thundershowers are an almost daily occurence this time of year there.

I for one am jacked and pumped for tonight's game. Missed last week's while sailing down the NE coastline. I'm scouting Tamper because I'll be in Florider this wintah and given the fan apathy I could score some cheap tix and go to a game.

Twitter from Mike Reiss:

- Scouts from 17 NFL teams & 3 Canadian Football League teams scheduled to be here tonight. Jets, Dolphins, Saints, Ravens w/ multiple scouts.

- It is commonplace for this time of year 2 have that many scouts at Pats preseason games. Teams always on lookout for quality that may be cut
