The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again:

Roger Daltrey long-scream:

"Yeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....MEET THE NEW BOSS.......SAME AS THE OLD BOSS"

They played it in the last moments of the 2004 Playoff game vs. the Colts and Gillette exploded.

Speaking of The Who, "Tommy" must be given consideration on a touchdown pass from #12.

And if NEM considers The Who too modern, perhaps a Maroney touchdown run can be saluted with the Del Shannon oldie "Hats off to Larry".

NEM considers Guy Lombardo too modern.

Too bad it was likely lost on most of the Colts' players.

Re: New Touchdown Song

This is a classic example of it's not broke, don't fix it.

Yeah, that would work too. [I'm still partial to Beautiful Day, though.]

Rush "Working Man" or Uriah Heep "Easy Living"

I always think of Beautiful Day as the new Patriots anthem based on the 2001 SB. I think they play this in the stadium some times at the end of a winning effort. They should adopt this full time.

"Won't get Fooled Again" is one of my all time favorites and would work bettter right after a TD, although it doesn't really have that sing along call and response element that makes RandR pt 2 so catchy.

With that in mind I think Elevation by U2 would be good (whoooo-hoooo, whooo-hoooohooooo) or ACDC's TNT-(OI, OI, OI) or they could go the local route and play The Cars - "Let's Go" or "Good Times Roll"

I thought of TNT myself, but I can attest that hearing it repeatedly becomes grating - I had to listen to it countless times at a certain trade show I attended. I hate Elevation, I think it's U2's worst song, so a definite no there.

Worse than "Mysterious Ways"?

Much worse. It grates on me. That it was on the Tomb Raider soundtrack doesn't help matters any.

Usher is club music, and really only works in a basketball setting if at all. I like the Hey song, always have associated it with the Patriots scoring a touchdown. They've been playing it for over a decade, haven't they? I understand the reason they're changing it (the composer's going to jail for child molestation or something, isn't he?) but why mess with success? No one's going to associate that song with molesting kids, heck no one even knows who made the song. Stupid reason to change it.

The 1812 overture would be my choice simply because of the theme, though I think Stars n Stripes Forever would work better for that theme as someone already mentioned (and sends chills down everyone's spines). Maybe they should have the Perceptionists (Boston-area rap/hip-hop artists) record another rap for this purpose, like they did a couple of years ago (it was featured on ESPN.com).

I like the concept of using the 1812 overture, mainly because I don't think any team in any professional sport uses classical music. I'm just not sure how well it would work in reality. How would a crowd respond to that? Maybe they could throw a few technobeats in there somewhere to appeal to the kids.

Mind you, I'm also very partial to the U2 "Beautiful Day" tune. I still have flashbacks to half-time and get shiver's up my spine...

OK screw the NFL.

I downloaded RnR PartII on my MP3 player so they can play any firggin song they want. I'll play my own.

I am also going to download "My Sharona" by the Knack. When our new RB scores I'll play that and substitute My Maroney for My Sharona.:rocker:

Isn't technology wonderful.

Whenever I hear "My Sharona", I think of "My Sca-rotum", by Cheech and Chong. It was from Up in Smoke. I think. Or was it Cheech and Chong's Next Movie? Or maybe Nice Dreams. They all kinda like run together, man...

Oh yes, the song. How about Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus", to celebrate the TDs needed this year, due to the at-present tenuous FG situation, and possible defensive growing pains?

Well then, I'd have to say "Smack my b*tch up" by Prodigy would fit right in on your playlist.

Thats been played many times at Pats games.

I'm getting goosebumps, NEM.

Nice job of rhyming "too" with "too".

You mean to tell me that the Pats front office didn't jump at that song?????

It might be the political overtones......

Re: New Touchdown Song

"Don't Mess with Texas" is NOWHERE near as awe inspiring as "Connecticut Is with You".

Those non-New Englanders won't know what hit them! Hurrah, hurrah!

A common rock song, the kind you can get at MTV or a club is nothing special..... but something that identifies with a team, that IS special. People all across the country always talked about , and fans knew about, Hail To The Redskins" and in it's day, fans all knew of "We're the Houston Oilers" and so on...

Anyone can pick a commmon rock song and play it after a TD, but it MEANS NOTHING of a personal value to a team..

You know something NEM? You've actually sold me on this. Heck, I still know the Wesleyan fight song, and that's a school where the football games are played in the quad next to the library so you don't have to interrupt your studying to watch.

The problem is that it's hard to just manufacture tradition. "On Wisconsin" might seem pretty hokey if they hadn't been singing it for generations. And if you try to get contemporary, you just end up with a "Superbowl Shuffle." <shudder>

So...open competition for a fight song, with a handful of season tickets to the winning composition? Whaddya say, Mr. Kraft?
