Pats legend Joejuan Williams retires

That pick was always odd to me. Bill liked the kid enough to move top to get him early day 2 but at that point we had a pretty loaded DB group. We had Chung, D McCourty, Terrence Brooks, and Harmon at the safety spot with Ebner as the special teamer. Gilmore, Jason McCourty, Jon Jones, and JC Jackson was starting to emerge at corner. Only thing I can think is Bill thought that Williams could eventually take over for Gilmore but if that was the case Bill's fastball was even worse than I think most could imagine.

Patiently awaiting @captain stone endearing farewell to one of his most esteemed/cherished players. Should be touching..

Holding back tears as I type this...

Slojuan announcing his "retirement" reminds me of that old country standard, How Can I Miss You If You Won"t Go Away?

And in case some of you may have forgotten, Bill traded 56 & 101 for the "privilege" of moving-up to 45 to pick him... So not only did he completely waste the first two draft picks he made that weekend, but he wasted a Third pick before day 2 ended as the cost of doing biniss... From that point forward Bill lost whatever remaining draft acumen he retained; because the rest of his drafts before he was righteously ****-canned were utter catastrophes, from beginning to end.... and Eliot the **** & Al Groh's kid were right by his side for those last couple...

Edit: Props to Scott99 for beating me to the trade-up angle.

Hart Lee Dykes without the broken kneecap. Yes, the team traded up. Some of us disliked that.

We didn't like that he, a DB, ran a 4.61 at the Combine. But disreputable groupies pooh-poohed that. Supposedly at his Vanderbilt pro day he ran a 4.5 something.

I believe it was Captain Stone who coined the nickname SloJuan. Which he lived up to.

Might've been someone else who first used it, I forget after all these years...

I thought Hart Lee Dykes was gonna be our Al Toon. Had an excellent rookie season despite questionable QB play. Was 2nd on the team in receptions and 1st on the team in receiving yards and 2nd on the team in td receptions. The long forgotten TE Eric Sievers led the 1989 Pats in receptions.

His 2nd season was the beginning of the end. Played 10 games, got hurt, got hurt again, and then again, andnever played another NFL game, could never get out of training camp.

Didn't one of those injuries occur at a Boston nightspot...?

We could have had AJB or Metcalf: BB Drafts are Synonymous with malpractice.

Very frustrating how lazy & insular he became when all of his First Dynasty people left and he allowed himself to take advice from incompetent, never-had-a-job-anywhere-else toadies such as Zippy the Pinhead, Little Nicky Cesar et al...

Can't have a SlowJaun thread without some sort of Captain commentary.

He ain't the only one who's slow, but I'm 38 years older than him!

7 years in the league with plenty of snap played and 0 interceptions.. I believe Spillane at LB has more career interceptions than Williams did.. another pick Nike the dog tried to trade..

I guess the optimist in me hoped he could be a solid safety for the Pats after clearly showing he wasn’t going to be a good CB. But I HATED this move from the second it happened. Bill’s horrific drafts ended the dynasty earlier than it should’ve ended.

Don't remind us but of course his minions would disagree.

I'd say he did just fine.

The way NFL players lifestyle and so many people that depend on them specifically a guy like him who he stated himself came from nothing.. I'd be suprised if he stillhad it.. of that 7 milly he likely saw 3.5 of it.. after taxes and agents fees..over the years..

Good thing he's not a Dorchester High teacher...

Don't know if he'd survive a week there... Heck I don't know if I would have either, as a student there during the forced busing-fueled mid-1970s...Kinda like the King of Queens when he became a substitute teacher during the IPS strike...

That 2019 draft was such a colossal let down. It was 2006 level - big hype, then nearly every pick flopped, forcing a spending spree the next year, handuffing the roster for years.
I really liked Harris but his injuries were a red flag. Even before his career ender in Buffalo.

There was hype pre draft with the WR class being one of the best of all time. After the draft, that hype was gone. Taking one WR especially when they had multiple chances with AJ Brown and Metcalf were idiotic.

Williams was a pointless pick along with Harris. Then BB doubled down having Harris as a healthy scratch virtually the entire season even though stiff running Sony Michel had no shot behind that OL. Harris was a very decisive RB who would've been a better choice to play over Michel.

Sure. If he has a million in the bank before turning 30 he did well.

I'm the Era after you my guy.. it's actually tech Boston academy now.. in the late 80s and early 90s.. it was considered like east side high...
