pats interested in Sammie Coates?

Earlier I said he had frying pan hands. He also has unique size and speed and is very strong....I will defer to Belichick with fingers crossed if he drafts Coates. He does drop balls and doesn't seem to have natural hands to me, but he also gets behind defenses and makes great catches.

I'm sure Belichick will be relieved that I am defering to him.

Marshall would be a great late round pick if available. THrows a great deep ball, great athlete, could play DB, also would be great being thrown to on a WR screen behind the LOS where he could throw downfield or run.

This was discussed a fair amount on the Pro Day thread yesterday, along with the other Auburn prospects. Lots of interesting day 3 guys (or UDFAs): Nick Marshall, CJ Uzomah, Corey Grant, Robinson Therezie, and more.

All I can say on Coates is that if this ends up being the time that BB and the Pats are rumored to be exceptionally high on a prospect and end up drafting them, it will be the rare exception. I hope not.

Gone off Coates, need reliable hands and there are enough of them available in thus class

After this report I re-watched a little on Coates and read up. Pretty sure this is just a smoke screen.

The guy has 1st round natural talent but so-so hands and has little in the way of route running ability.

If BB is confident he can be coached up he would be an okay pick at 32 but that is an if not worth the risk in my estimation. Not really a fit for what Brady likes to do either.

Reminds me a bit too much of Chad Jackson for my comfort.

You know. I didn't even consider that comparison but thinking about it now that is very accurate. He is not on my board currently and that will not change. Don't think he fits here.

Looks more like a guy Flacco or Ben might make better use of.

I watched some highlights (so I did not see the drops). He may not have a good 40 time, but he has outstanding acceleration while on the move and after the catch; he could be a force after the catch. He has a freakish physique.

If BB is interested in him, it does not mean much considering BB's track record with drafting WRs. Coates is an intriguing prospect but a big gamble.

Marshall and Grant are players Im high on but Uzomah could really be a boom or bust day 3 pick. Interesting prospect who defiantly wasn't showcased playing in that offense.
