Pats have re-signed Vince Wilfork - 5 years, $40M ($25 GTD) [mergedx4]

So Vince got the biggest contract ever for the position, got more than Hampton, got more than $7 million per year, got the long-term security a player likes to have, and got a hell of a lot more than just franchise value up front. Now, perhaps, the more rabid homers will finally start to understand why the franchise tag was a potential problem moving forward if the team hadn't worked out a deal.

Congrats, Vince, you've earned the coin. Now go out there and keep earning it, every day.

This is the post you decide on? This is good (and expected) news and you want to use your post to call out "homers" with some really odd logic of using the fact that he was signed to prove that it would be a big problem if he wasn't.

Is this some sort of weird contrived victory for you?

Great work, Pats & Vince to get a deal done!

i am not surprised honestly

i expected a new deal for him expecially after Seymour wasd traded to Oak

right move for a core playier in or defense

I'm happy for big Vince Wilfork and will be glad to have him around for a few more years. I'm also proud of the Patriots for taking care of their own first. Good Job Front Office. Congrats to Tully and Stephen Neal as well.

Re: Pats have re-signed Vince Wilfork [mergedx2]

1 step in the right direction. releived!!

Looking at the play it looks like one LB took himself out of the play and one, Mayo, got blocked. Wilfork didn't do that bad but he did get doubled out of the play, I thought he was supposed to stand his ground.

I don't get paying him a huge SB and having injury risk when he HAD to play for 7M this year. And yes I know he wouldn't like it, whatever, he would have had to. And then 8.4M next year.

So how does it work with the "cap"? There's no cap this year but there will be the following year? Or is it still undecided as to whether there'll be a cap this year.

If BB could have drafted a decent NT in previous years then he could have let VW walk. That's how you get value, you pay rookie contract prices for good players.

If he could have drafted a decent ILB instead of the great "Guyton" then we wouldn't have gotten run over on that play. Or if they had let Mayo recover from his knee problem. I hope to God that Mayo was injured as to why he got blocked so easily...it was pathetic. They could run that play 10x and I don't think the Patriots could have stopped it more than once or twice.

He drafted Brace.
Guyton was an undrafted free agent.
Then why didn't they run it 10x and score 10 touchdowns?
Exaggerate much?

Let me get this straight, you're UNHAPPY that BB resigned Wilfork? Care to explain why outside of that one bad cherrypicked play?

I explained why. We're paying top $ for this guy, basically. Unless he's some huge stud who is just wrecking offenses, then I don't think it's worth it. You don't get "value" by paying top dollar for "good" players. You get value by drafting well and signing FA guys cheaply who fit your system. Obviously the system didn't work very well on that play so it's hard to say that Guyton "fits the system".

Vince isn't "good" though is he? He's the best at his position in the league.

But keep on trolling.

I don't think he's that good, good but not "great"...if he were great he wouldn't have been blown our on that play. Didn't he miss a few games down the stretch? Our defense was about the same. So much for indispensable.

And still you whine on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on about one. freaking. play.

Is Peyton Manning not worth his new contract because he threw the Superbowl away?

No. Stop trolling.

It's not just one play. He's good not great. He's not worth 8M per year with a huge SB, especially when he was goign to be "forced" to play for 7M already. It was a bad sigining. Let him go, stick some other fat slob in there and use the money elsewhere, where it could do some good.

He's the best NT in the league.

But keep on trolling. Mods, can we not ban this punk?

He adds nothing to the forum. Nothing.

Its ridiculous to suggest Big Vince isn't that good.

He's the best. Good move by the organisation. Yesterday could have been better,
But theres still some players out there.
As for the Ravens TD in the playoffs. To me at the time it looked like AD was the one that missed his assignment and not Vince.

Some posters are nothing if not consistent.

I for one find it pretty entertaining.

Not a Deus post if he's not calling out "homers" and trying oh-so-desperately to prove he isn't one.

I'm not as high on Vince as most, and I'd definitely take Ngata over him, but I'm still totally okay with this contract. Dunno what that says about someone who's still *****ing that $8M per is too much for him...

Out of curiosity, what other "fat slob" would you stick in there that could handle two-gap responsibilities as well as Vince but for less money? I've already heard a few people claim we could replace him with Pickett or Hampton or Jenkins, but no doubt their GMs would swap us for Vince straight up in a heartbeat.

8M was a really fair deal for the best 2-gap NT in the game, and it didn't distort the market like Haynesworth's deal. Haynesworth is probably more talented, but way more expensive. I like Ngata as well, but he's still on his rookie deal, so not an accurate comparison.

And I don't understand how people isolate a few plays over the years to "prove" Vince messed up so he's not worth the money. Every player makes mistakes. Faulk juggled that 4th and 2 pass against the Colts; does that mean he's done? Brady threw a few uncharacteristic picks this season; is he now a JAG? Well, according to some who wanted Cassell over TFB, I guess so. Cherry-picking a few bad plays from the past few years isn't a fair or accurate representation of a player's abilities.

Ban you punk! Nothing to offer but homerism.

Nevertheless, what's done is done. I hope Wilfork proves me wrong and is a great value to a winning team. BB tried to replace him with Brace and it was a no go. So here we are and let's hope it works.
