Pats defense learning quickly under Brian Flores

If the only thing Danny Shelton does all year is soak up the O-Line and make two people block him I will be happy, will allow HT, KVN, Roberts to make the tackles in the gaps!

I really think this could be a strong D-Line not so much taking 10 sacks a game but just being strong and displinced

Every year people think the defense will be aggressive. Every year the defense looks absolutely oppressive and smothering before it counts. And then every year the season starts and we get bend but don't break.

Not every year. They had the freedom to be more aggressive (at times) when they had the personnel finally in place between 2013-2016. It wasn't a Rex Ryan defense by any stretch of the imagination, but they DID blitz and DID disguise a ton. You simply cannot be very aggressive when the personnel you have in place is suspect at every level of the field, which is what we saw in 2017.

The more DL there are who need to be double-teamed, the fewer gaps there are for the RB to run through.

I still expect this defense to make ordinary qbs look great. I am really hoping Rivers can be a player but that’s asking a lot after the guy had surgery. We will see if they can be stout went it comes to stopping the run.

And since Belichick took over we are the #3 defense in the nfl in the stat that matters the most, points allowed, and #4 in the one that matters second most, takeaways.

For as long as Brady has been BRADY, the goal - with respect to game strategy, budgetary strategy, and draft policy - has been to have a defense that is good enough not to be a problem, and not to overextend looking for more. The expectation has been that with Brady in place the offense would, more often than not, be MORE than good enough. The philosophy has made for frustration at times ("How come they won't spend millions on a gd PASS RUSH!!!"), but really, what team has has had better overall success for as long as it has been in place: none. When the circumstances change, I suspect Bill will change: he's pretty smart.

It would be kinda funny in a good way if Wise turns out better than Clayborn.

The difference in the game was their o-line was impenatrable while ours had a few kinks. I honestly don’t think Wentz or Foles are that good - they were protected last year like no other.

You’re right. Best Oline in the League last year? Eagles by far.

If Vaitai had to face the 2016 Pats DLine (plus a re-signed Hicks), he would've been *****-slapped all game long.
