Pats beat Colts. We've lost, what, three straight games to Indy? Until we beat them, they're number one. All these rankings suggesting otherwise are crap. JMHO.

I couldn't agree more.

And we get the chance in a few weeks.

I completely agree.
The Colts Rule untill we beat them.

Are you reading this diss Rodney?

I half agree with what you have written. In my rankings, the defending champs are #1 until they actually lose a game so, obviously, Indy maintains their hold on the top spot. But if Indy goes out and loses a game or two in October, and the Pats keep winning, then the Pats take over #1... even though NE hasn't played them yet...

I don't necessarily disagree, but on the other hand, how many rankings did we have to endure during the dynasty years with the Colts at the top even though they hadn't proven anything yet?

And I know the ESPYs are a joke and mean absolutely nothing but it is funny that during the dynasty years we had to watch manning and the colts get awards and then when Indy wins the super bowl and you think the tables should turn, since NE was probably the better team, and brady the better QB given the guys he was throwing to, they still give the awards to manning/indy. which is it the wins/trophies or the personal stats? i don't care which one is the measuring stick, so long as it is applied consistently.

so, while I agree, we haven't proven it yet, i'll take whatever we can get.

I can't wait until this game is played. Actually personally, I'm not looking forward to it, this week against the Bengals I was a nervous wreak worrying about the Bengals passing game. I can't imagine what I'll be like on gameday against the Colts, I'm afraid I'll have to drink so much, I'll pass out before gametime. I wish I didn't love football as much as I do.

Here's my fear: Pats go 16-0... get to AFCCG vs. Colts... and lose.

Uh, why not?

Does that mean since the Bears have beaten the Bucs the last few times they've played, that we have to assume that the 1-3 QB0-less Bears are better than the 3-1 Bucs?

Pats beat Colts

...in the playoffs. Assuming they face each other.

I'd consider NE > Indy even if we lost on 11/4, but Indy gets bounced by someone else in the playoffs and we win the AFC.

But as I posted elsewhere, in the last three playoff meetings with Indy, the regular-season winner also won the playoff game. [Edit] Meaning that I pray to high hell that we beat them on 11/4.

In any case, I consider the Colts to be the best, until they are dethroned.

Power rankings can be a mildly enjoyable way to pass the time, but I always think it's funny anyone would actually care about them. They're totally meaningless. As for the espys, the idea of giving awards like that is so completely the opposite of what sports is about, I never ever watch them. Just awful.

I'm kind of with you here. If you were compiling a power ranking, how could you not rank the Patriots #1 after literally the best 4-game season start in NFL history?

That said, the early rankings will all be rendered meaningless soon enough.

Your right, they are somewhat enjoyable. Imagine if they really meant something, as in a college championship.

If both teams are still undefeated going into that game, I don't know if any regular season game will have ever been so hyped. It should be good times.

I don't understand why people put rigid rules on how much they will or won't use their powers of reason and judgment in ranking teams.

For example, did you rank the Broncos #1 in 1999, after Elway retired? What if Manning had retired after the SB last year, would you still rank the Colts #1 because they're "champs."

Rankings are for idiots. Rings are forever.

BTW, the Pats are 2 1/2 point favorites right now.

Last year was last year. I don't buy it. You can rank them higher in the power rankings because they are defending champs if you like, but I judge how the Pats rank against other teams on how they play on the field at the current point. Not how they matched up in the past. The Pats are very different today than they were even in the AFC Championship last year.

The Pats will need to beat the Colts and several other top teams to prove they are the best in the league when everything is said and done. But from what I have seen from both teams so far, I still think the Pats are the better team.

Got to have HFA this season. Very important game in that regard. Home team has won in the playoffs every time these two teams have met.

Pats are better on offense this year and should be playing better D by the time November comes around.

Hopefully they paid off the refs and won't have to play against them too.
