BB would cut his own mother if he could find someone else to do the job for better value.

Steve has been on the staff for 5 years now, 4 years as Coaching Assistant and 1 year as Safeties Coach. I think Bill set the standard with Steve on how he'll treat his son and by all respects he was, if anything, extra harsh on Steve and Steve had to work twice as much as others to prove himself and get promoted. Infact Steve's talked about that. All the secondary has huge respect for Steve.

So the precedent has been set with Steve and hence adding Brian shouldn't be an issue. He'll be Coaching Assistant for a while and will have to work pretty hard to prove himself. The Pats keep a small staff and everyone has to work very hard.

Either way it has got to be tough to coach in the NFL when your father is BB. I will say that they seem to handle it well.

If I was Steve or Brian I would probably want to build up the experience for a couple more years and then see if I could get a coordinators job somewhere else, presumably college, just to avoid the questions about nepotism. Granted Steve is farther along with that and with the Patriots coaching tree it may be easier said than done.

Actually you are on the right track MF. Early in his career BB worked in several organizations. rarely spending more than a couple of years at each stop. Lots of organizations and lots of different systems, lots of things learned at each stop.

It would be good for their respective coaching careers for the brothers Bellichick to experience mulitiple organizations as they grow into their profession. Kyle Shanahan is a good example of a successful father to son hand off, and IIRC he had several stops that didn't include his father.

BB also used moving around to build a network of connections which is vital to young coaches.
I know a young coach who not only has moved to different programs but also worked with many coaches who moved up the ladder into different programs (i.e. Position coach hired as coordinator at a lower program, coordinator becoming HC) and really expands your opportunities not only when they have openings but when their contacts have them.

I take this as another sign that Bill is not retiring any time soon.

I expect Belichick to coach another 8 or more seasons.

He is going to beat Shula's all time win total & be with out a doubt the GOAT.
