I'm going to really, really miss Matthew Slater when he retires.

He picked up the "Oh yeah" torch from Tedy Bruschi and carried it through the second era of The Dynasty and beyond.

Even his story: being the little son of big Jackie Slater and still becoming his own kind of NFL legend.

We're so lucky to still have you Matthew Slater, and you remind of us of how this team was unique.

That sounds to me like Trey isn't ready to play, but didn't want to go on season ending IR once his PUP timer ran out, so he's going to look around for other opportunities on other teams. If nothing happens with that, it's possible he comes back on the PS (or back to the 53 if someone gets hurt), but it's also just as likely if not more so he just retires.
