Many of the Patriots stars were very low draft picks or undrafted: Brady, Edelman, Butler. Lewis seemed to be also fairly unwanted by most teams, but he is not quite a star.
Are there other teams, now or even in the past, that have relied to such an extent on almost "cast offs"? I think the idea is that:
(1) The players must be stars, not just contributors, to the team: starting QB, #1 receiver, #1 corner for instance;
(2) The players in some sense must have been completely overlooked by other teams: undrafted or 7th round picks for instance.
I'm curious statistically: how does the Patriots ability to use 7th round or lower draft picks compare to other teams'?
