This is actually a great read from Hallie Grossman. She posted it within the hour if any of you haven't seen it:

I really think Jones got here too late. He should not have been a day 1 rookie starter, ideally he would have benefitted from sitting for a year or two and learning from the GOAT what the mindset needs to be for a franchise QB and how to be a leader both on and off the field. Really hard to imagine him leading a comeback from say 28-3 in a big game... you have to be a leader to do that.

Not great news on Stevenson:

Great news! Rham doesn't have to suffer in this offense the rest of the season. He now can fully recover, rest and come back recharged for next season.

Agreed. Had AB still had been on the team in 2019 and going forward Brady would have likely chosen to stay. Therefore drafting Mac and having him learn under the GOAT would have done marvels for him and career projectory.

Nice read from Callahan:

From the article:

"Like the lonely zero that hung on the scoreboard at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, Bill Belichick’s history of drafting wide receivers is sad, painful and plain to see.

Do you know the last college receiver the Patriots selected who became a multi-year NFL starter?

That would be Deion Branch in 2002. That’s right.

It’s been more than 20 years since Belichick drafted and developed a true wideout. Tom Brady papered over that problem for two decades, as he did many dynasty-era deficiencies. But now Belichick’s receiving corps is undermining the Patriots more than any other non-quarterback position on the roster."

Some other good stuff in here as well including that Zappe was actually pretty accurate despite the outcome, and some other good bits of info.

Nice graphic on the earlier mention of Jonathan Jones:

I mean... that's a bit harsh. They're discounting Edelman because he was a college QB. They're discounting Jakobi Meyers because he was undrafted. They're discounting Malcolm Mitchell because his career was tragically cut short by injury. Certainly the record is bad, but this is twisting it into misleading territory.

Mitchell was such a disappointing thing. He overcame the elbow dislocation in preseason (which looked graphic when it happened) but obviously, his knee ultimately let him down. He would have gone on to do some good things here had he stayed healthy, and based on the timing of when he was drafted, might have extended Brady's tenure.

It's so sad to read this piece. For a moment putting oneself in jones shoes, it's so gut wrenching .. great article.

I think about Malcolm Mitchell more than I think about the Roman Empire

Will die on this take
We win the Superbowl in 2019 with a AB/Edelman combo

Certainly looked good in the Miami game. Only question might have been whether or not he could have kept it together for an entire season, although obviously, he did it a year later ... so one would have to believe he might have been able to do it here.

I think everyone is going to get discounted when Brady was around. Bill legacy has taken a pounding . And if bill goes elsewhere and loses its going to eb even more.

Edelman is revered here but always considered a byproduct of brady's greatness. Only gronk held his own in eyes of other fans and media as one of the best in their positions.

But our offense drafting has been putrid. We don't even have someone like tank dell or Puka nacua in last 8 years of drafting. That's how bad we are.

Everyone is basing decisions of analytics and other advanced metrics while bill js hiring based on recommendations and looking decent in interviews.

To put in software parlance bill is dealing with mainframes while rest of league is dealing with supercomputers and artificial intelligence.

Agreed. It's easy to throw stones at this, as it's Bill's glaring flaw as a roster builder.

Givens is on that list too.

I actually have put some thought into the reverse of this though. What if Bill goes elsewhere and is very successful, and whoever Kraft replaces him with still sucks? I think Kraft's reputation will get eviscerated.
