He did some positive things vs the 3rd string defense for one the NFLs worst teams last year. The Cunningham hype seems to be ramping up. Slot me into the ‘wait and see / skeptic’ category for now.

My gut (which is pretty crappy pun intended) tells me Malik could have a similar career arc to Slash (aka Kordell De Nial Stewart). It seems the Pats saw what we all saw - that Malik deserves more opportunity in practice.
But, he's a far cry from being ready to run a full offense. Not because he can't, but he just hasn't had the time.
So I think they test him out these next 2 weeks and see what he can do - beyond just scrambling.
But I've slowly had to change my mind on this style of QB. And I would like to see a sub-package where we start to modernize our offense, especially in the RZ. Because Malik isn't just a runner, he has an arm. I'm in the "intrigued" category.
Again, I'd feel better about a steady vet at #2, and keeping Malik as a #3 development. (cut Zappe)
Just curious - which steady vet for #2 do you think could the Pats pick up? Imho, Zappe did pretty well last year in spite of the Patty Chip show. 71% Comp, 2-0 as a starter. Gotta give him a real chance as well.It seems the Pats saw what we all saw - that Malik deserves more opportunity in practice.

I am 100% on this train. The hype, from what I see, is media driven.Likewise. He did some positive things vs the 3rd string defense for one the NFLs worst teams last year.
When he starts doing this vs 1st teamers is when i'll take serious interest.

I think it's probably early to test him against 1st string, but I would be pretty interested to see him against 2nd string. If he's still able to posterize top reserve players then we might have reason to be excited. He's a rookie so will get better over time. His big knock was that he wasn't a great passer but BOB is a very very good and underrated QB coach - I wouldn't be surprised if he can make a decent passer out of Cunningham. As we've seen with Lamar, if you're a great runner, you only need to be an OK passer to have success.Likewise.
