Finally time for some football

I'll try and post updates from X (Twitter, whatever it is we're calling it) during the practice session here, but everyone is encouraged to help out. Hopefully we can grab all the news that comes up so we can each follow along, and definitely looking forward to seeing this preseason get under way.

I just posted a thing for this morning, but here are a couple of good bits from Jonathan Jones from his press conference yesterday:

As for Jones, he was asked where we might see him play on defense this season, and the veteran said that he's open to wherever they need him to play. “Like every year, just wherever they need me," said Jones. "I enjoy playing football, whether it’s inside, outside, safety. I’ve done it all here in my career here, and I’m just enjoying playing where the team needs me. I’m prepared to play there.”

Jones made an interesting comment Tuesday when it comes to the fact they haven't had a true free safety since the retirement of Devin McCourty. Jones pointed out the benefit of not necessarily having a guy who plays there exclusively allows them to disguise their coverages. “I don’t know. I mean, we have a lot of good safeties," said Jones when asked if the team needs to have a true free safety. "I think the good thing between Pep [Jabril Peppers] and Doug [Kyle Dugger] is you don’t know who is where, what. They can kind of disguise a little bit more who’s going to line up at free, who’s going to line up at strong. But it’s always good to have a guy like Devin, who’s back there as a general manager of the defense and kind of coaching and getting guys lined up. I wouldn’t say you need it, but it’s always good to have a guy like that. ”

We have the SS part figured out we need to get Faster at FS. Peppers and Dugger is like running with Two SS back there they won't work against everybody or Team.

Both (esp. Pep) players are every bit as fast as McCourty. It's not that. McCourty could play CB, his mental acuity and other skills made him a very good FS.

Edit: what I think Pep and Dug bring to the third level is being able to separate the receiver from the ball with some big hits but they have to get there in time. That's tough to do nowadays but it should scare some receivers.

I mentioned this earlier in the offseason, they have a lot of CB's.

Jon Jones has the most experience in the system and possesses the prerequisite athleticism... he would make a great free safety.
