Player Signing Patriots Sign WR Stefon Diggs

I really would ask that I be spared these asinine video clips. Be an adult, Use your words.

A WR who won't constantly be in his young QB's ear telling him how open he is on every single play would be a nice start... Tyler Lockett from the same draft class as Diggs would've been my first choice, especially if they were going for that same body type anyway.
Isn’t Lockett washed? Diggs is better, even with the ACL. If he doesn’t work out, you pay the guaranteed money and say goodbye.

Wouldn’t JM know about Diggs’ attitude since his brother is the Texans’ WR coach?

Still hope they get Tyron Smith for a year
I know he has been injury prone
He can start the season and be a great mentor for the LT we draft

I would be fine with that. As you said it would provide insurance, and any deal would be back off the books in a year.

The “ 23” million per year sounds high, but only 26 of the 69 million of it is guaranteed, which makes it a really good deal, as he will have to earn most of it.
I agree with this. My beef is not with the cost. It is with the overall idea that a team which will not be genuinely competitive for two years anyway would take on a player who in those same two years will be worthless. To me this move is merely to appease the fanboy and radio yappers too impatient for more responsible moves which take chances on players who might actually be worth a d--n in a couple years.

I think Boutte and Bourne will be the most likely cuts

I think Hunter will go in top 3, leaving Pats with choice of Carter, LT or Jeante. If Wolf is serious about BPA the pick could be Carter or Jeanty

I agree on Bourne, but Boutte was their best receiver last season, I don’t think he’s going anywhere. Baker is a more likely cut.

Holy cow, an Andrew Toney reference. Those matchups were brutal. People seem to forget that the Celtics had to play an NBA championship team before getting to the NBA championship. That 7 game 81 series decided by an entirely of 5 points is regarded as the best series of all time. That was a crazy foot injury that cut Toney’s career short.
Toney was an absolute pain in the ass....and a damn good player.

I just clicked on this thread for the first time. Let me guess....many of the same Pats fans who were calling them cheap for not being aggressive about adding a veteran WR will now say that they overpaid for Diggs. I suspect when the details of the contract are released that his cap number will be very reasonable. Otherwise, it's just Kraft money and I don't give a flying f*ck about that.

They still had roughly $90 million in cap space before they signed him. This deal no way will restrict them from doing anything that they want to do, so who cares IF they had to pay a premium to get him to sign. I have no problem with that.

Diggs, 31, is still recovering from a season-ending ACL injury that he suffered in the Houston Texans' Week 8 game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Up to that point, Diggs ranked seventh in the NFL in catches (47) and was second on the Texans in receiving yards (496). Quarterback C.J. Stroud had a passer rating of 104 and completed 73% of his passes when targeting Diggs.

High end WR2? Giddy up.

In summary, if you don't like this signing, you probable fall into one of these three categories.

1. Dumb
2. Whiney *****
3. Dumb, whiney *****

Those of you wringing your hands about the money, it’s not your money. Why do you even care? Maybe years of baloney sandwiches allowed the Krafts to save substantially more cash. Who cares, GREAT SIGNING

It’s a lot of money all things considered but it’s something and we need him. Finally a WR who is a clear cut 1/2.

I guess they were off.

Not really. The guaranteed money is only 26 million, which is no problem at all. Diggs is essentially betting on himself.
So he’s essentially guaranteed to make a little over 8.5 million a year, the rest is up to him.

It's absolutely mind blowing the production diggs had against us.. even last season he had a nice game. I'm fully confident he's going to be ready week 1.. the team did thier due diligence on him.. Highsmith deserves alot of praise.

Ligamentization is when the ACL graft becomes a ligament like a natural ACL and by the 6 month point is considered "an actual ligament". The 6 month mark is also when people are normally cleared for their specific sports drills and by 8-9 months post op can return to contact sports because the ACL graft is about equal strength to the original ACL.

I imagine by them saying he will be ready, they mean he can get on the field and run routes. He had surgery in November I think.
Yep. My daughter blew out her ACL and played HS/NPL soccer and that was her timeline.
Years later while no longer playing competitive soccer, her knee gets a bit sore from standing a long time and her hammy cramps where they took the graft.

I can see him being able to run routes in August. Beyond that everyone is different.

There's a reason I tend to ignore these signing threads and I should have ignored this one. I swear we could have signed Jamar Chase, Tee Higgins, Chris Godwin or DK Metcalfe and the response would still include the usual ludicrously OTT negative takes from the "look at me" posters on here where everything is wrong i.e. player, money contract etc.

Will this work out? Who knows? For me it's clearly a risk worth taking.
Not really. Chase signed a 4 year 161 million dollar extension with the Bengals to stay with his original team. We weren't going to top 40m per year, nor were we a more attractive destination for Chase.

Only $26m guaranteed for a 31yo coming off a major knee injury....

Agree the NEP can manage the spend easily but Jesus..

Absolutely agree with you. We haven't had a WR that impacts the game since Edelman. However diggs is the best thing that could have happened this offseason for drakes development to take him to the next level. Imagine the room Henry, and Gibson will have to operate becuase of diggs presence.

Why Highsmith?
