Spillane who .... Seems a depth signing. Maybe like the Jennings extension. Middle class signing

Seems like a nice get. Liked him whenever I’ve seen them play

Can I still come watch the games coach?
tell him to wear a raincoat if he does... I think there would be a 100% chance of a beer shower that day...

Turned into a really good player starting in LA, really excellent against the run. Coverage not a strong suit but a solid blitzer. He's and NFL caliber starter.

Combine testing was about identical to Bentley. Play style appears to be different though.

Grades terribly in coverage but really well everywhere else. Feels like a guy who should be playing instead of Bentley, not next to him.

Just to add some mystique to signing. Not that it matters much. From Wikipedia.

Spillane is the grandson of 1953 Heisman Trophy winner, College Football Hall of Famer and NFL halfback Johnny Lattner.

This was the only interesting thing I could pull about him. Again I don't follow the bucs so would look forward to experts to let us know what the impact of signing would be. Pros and cons of this signing, and which player will be on the outs because of this signing.

I think Bentley will be here.. if anyone it's Tavai he probably replacing.

Not a depth signing, you don't pay 37m over 3 years for linebacker depth.

That's a starter and a key one.
General note: I wouldn't react to raw financial data. For all we know he could have a fully non-guaranteed $20M salary in year 3 which would mean it's effectively a 2 year, $17M deal.

Not a matter of if Bentley is here or not. I'm just saying that if the two of them are playing together, our LB coverage will be TERRIBLE. That's probably not something that they want. We're not going to be able to turn over every stone and fix everything, so it might well be a weakness they deal with this year. But over the longer term, that's probably not a sustainable pairing (nor was Bentley and Tavai) and something they probably have to address by replacing one of them with a coverage-capable LB (or by playing a SS full time at LB in essentially a base dime package).

110 tackles. On the field >1000 snaps, so full-time player.
Run defender. Very limited in coverage. Limited pressure.
6-1 229. Ran 4.77.
Decent three-cone at 7.13
Lighter ILB. Bentley came out at 6-1.5 246, but same speed and three-cone.

PFF FA Summary on him

Spillane was a top-five linebacker in snaps played and total tackles in 2024, with a strong 87.3 PFF run-defense grade. He's at his best coming downhill and can get picked on in coverage when he has to backpedal or sharply change direction, but five interceptions over the past two years is nothing to scoff at. Over the past two seasons Spillane's 114 solo tackles, 66 stops and 21 tackles for loss or no gain against the run are all top-10 marks among linebackers, and he's the only linebacker in the top 15 of any of those categories with a missed tackle rate of 5% or lower.

You might be underrating him. Stats look better than just “a depth signing.” This is from ESPN. Sources: Pats boost defense with Davis, Spillane

He had at least 10 tackles in eight contests last season. In a Week 17 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, Spillane tallied 16 tackles in 75 defensive snaps.

Spillane finished the season with 158 tackles, 14 quarterback pressures and a pair of sacks. Since joining the Raiders in 2023, Spillane has collected 306 tackles, fourth most during that span…
