Patriots/Saints Bruschi's breakdown

Saints fan here.

We're not the greatest show on turf. It's a different kind of attack, probably more well-balanced. While we've developed the reputation as a pass-happy team from 2006-2008, in 2009 we're running it as well, if not better, than we are throwing. In addition, it's a power running game as well (something the Saints haven't seen before in quite a while)

Mike Bell and Pierre Thomas, both of whom are probably no-names to a lot of you guys, are having the best years of their careers. Reggie Bush is no superstar, but is our Kevin Faulk, and must be accounted for at all times.

They each have three different running styles. Reggie Bush is, of course, extremely quick (occasionally has a penchant to run sideways too much), and is finally playing within himself. He's a maddeningly inconsistent player, but often performs best on a big stage.

Mike Bell (you guys may remember him from Denver) is a one-cut power runner that never avoids contact, preferring to slam a defender before the defender slams him.

Pierre Thomas is the most complete, impressive runner of the three. Despite not having great speed or measurables, he reads blocks as well as any runner in the NFL, and is an extremely shifty runner - he's tricky to bring down.

Stop these three guys, and the Pats have a shot. Our downfield passing attack works best when the running game is on point. Without the running game, teams get inside pressure on Brees, and he can be forced to make bad throws.
