Agree -- assuming there's no locker room issues, I think his contract is good (not great) for his production.
But if they can get him to lower it, I'd be ecstatic

It's hilarious how they want him to restructure a bargain deal when they're bringing in receivers that when combined they have 100-200
More yards than him. He isn't great but he's cheap and relatively productive compared to who they're bringing in.

Their stats last year were pretty much identical.

Keep Lloyd, he's not breaking the bank plus he should be better this year with a yr under shis belt. Hopefully the reason for restructure is to use some $$$ on Sanders. I'll happilly take Sanders/Lloyd/Amendola/Jones paired up w/ Gronk and Hernandez

And that's why you don't pay the guy his bonus. Nobody wanted him last year and he came crawling to the Pats. Now the market for guys like him is non-existant.

I think the easy solution would be to take out the bonus altogether, leaving him with a $3M cap number this year and $5M next year.

I'm not 100% clear on the cap ramifications of cutting ties with Lloyd. Bedard and others have cited our cap space growing by close to $5 mill I think; but Miguel and others have at $2.9. Considering I can't think of an instance where Miguel got a detail wrong, I know what I'm banking on.

So I'd rather keep him at a reduced hit for this year. Seems like the best deal for both sides. Fully agree with your logic regarding the market that is out there.

I like Lloyd, but with the current WR market, I'd cut him IF we can save $5M in cap space and he's not willing to restructure. If his cap hit is down in the $2-3M range, you're not going to replace his production for that kind of money, so it makes much more sense to keep him.

Honestly I don't get the hate for Llodyd. Just because he wasn't the dep threat we all hoped for doesn't mean he wasn't effective. He is willing to restructure and is the last WR who really knows this system. He catches almost everything that comes his way and doesn't rely on speed.

I really hope he'll be there next season.

So, Lloyd has been asked to restructure. Of course, Lloyd is willing. Almost all players are willing to restructure as long as they get the same money. Most of us have assumed a Mankins restructure if needed.

The open question is how much new money is Lloyd worth. He is currently scheduled for $5M this year and $3M next. Personally, I don't think that the patriots can match his production for that money.

Using statistical metrics as justification for keeping the rapidly declining Brandon Lloyd is naive at best. Lloyd's a poor fit for this specific offense and has been since day one. This offense going forward will likely require receivers with exceptional quickness and explosive ability to get open immediately. Lloyd no longer possesses the speed or the quickness (and never really did) to get separation against starting caliber CBs. And when he does make a catch he almost always falls down immediately on the field or out of bounds. The Patriots' offense is predicated on receivers being able to get YAC. Lloyd offers nothing in that department either.

And reports of his malcontent behavior within the locker room don't help his cause. If he restructures then he should be given one last opportunity to have an open competition for the 3rd WR role (Branch's old spot). If he restructures and stays, I expect him to cut before the season a la Ochocinco once the team finds a better option to replace him. And before anyone starts comparing and contrasting Ochocinco's numbers to Lloyd, neither offered any sort of impact to defensive game planning or attention and both were against 1 on 1 coverage consistently and still couldn't get the job done. That to me is an abject failure as #2 WR any way you slice it.

His starting days are long gone here in New England and even if he does make the team his only role should be as a situational 3rd down sideline route WR since he offers zero special teams ability. At this point he's basically nothing more than another Deion Branch-esque JAG.

Yes, Lloyd wants to be here. Last year was a show-me year. He showed us fine production.

I also "expect" and hope that Lloyd will re-sign. Apparently the locker room issues are past us. I just don't think his total compensation for the first two year of his contract will total $5M. I believe that he will get more. Also, I would be surprised if Lloyd signs a longer than 2-year contract.

But he is here because he wants to be here.

I guess I just dont get the hate for Lloyd....sure he wasnt the "deep threat" we all wanted him to be

but, he played the sidelines well and made some beautiful catches...I still remember how he burned the 49ers defense and was a large part of that comeback.

frankly, his contract was a bargain for the production he gave us. Who cares if he doesnt have much YAC...we have our TE's, Slot guys for that.

now, I would ONLY be ok to releasing him if we sign Emanuel Sanders who would be a fine replacement...Jones is not an answer at that outside receiver spot...he likely takes the #3 spot or #4
