FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots announced today that they have released the following six players: OL Jake Andrews, DL Marcus Harris, WR JaQuae Jackson, LB Titus Leo, S Mark Perry and TE Giovanni Ricci.
Andrews, 25, was originally drafted by New England in the fourth round (107th overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Troy. The 6-foot-3, 308-pounder, played in 16 games with one start at left guard as a rookie in 2023 and then spent the 2024 season on injured reserve.
Harris, 24, was signed by New England to the practice squad on Oct. 11, 2024. The 6-foot-2, 298-pounder, originally entered the NFL as a seventh-round draft pick (247th overall) of the Houston Texans out of Auburn in the 2024 NFL Draft. Harris played his first two seasons at Kansas (2019-20) before transferring to Auburn for three seasons (2021-23) and finished his college career with 125 total tackles, 11 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 4 fumble recoveries.
Jackson, 25, was signed by New England on June 6, 2024. The 6-foot-1, 184-pounder, was originally signed by Atlanta as a rookie free agent out of Rutgers on April 30, 2024, but was released on June 4, 2024. He spent the 2024 season with New England on injured reserve.
Leo, 25, was signed by New England to the 53-man roster from the Indianapolis practice squad on Nov. 19, 2024. The 6-foot-3, 250-pounder, was originally drafted in the sixth-round of the 2023 NFL Draft (211th overall) by Indianapolis out of Wagner. He spent the entire 2023 season on injured reserve. Leo was released by Indianapolis on Aug. 27, 2024, and was signed to the Indianapolis practice squad. He played in four games with the Patriots last season and finished with 1 tackle.
Perry, 23, was signed by New England to the practice squad on Sept. 19, 2024. The 6-foot, 215-pounder, originally was signed by Miami as a rookie free agent out of TCU on May 10, 2024. He was released by Miami on Aug. 27, 2024 and signed by Houston to the practice squad on Aug. 29. Perry was released by Houston from the practice squad on Sept. 10. He transferred to TCU for his final three seasons after beginning his college career at Colorado.
Ricci, 28, signed a futures contract with New England on Feb. 3, 2025. The 6-foot-3, 245-pounder, originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with the Carolina Panthers out of Western Michigan in 2020. He spent his rookie season on the practice squad and then played in 36 games with four starts and finished with 9 receptions for 102 yards over the next three years with the Panthers. Ricci signed with the Cleveland Browns as an unrestricted free agent last season but was released at the end of training camp and spent the season out of football.

Giovanni Ricci. Bummer

Pretty surprised they released Andrews!. I guess that explains why they picked the C in the draft.
It may be related to injury (torn knee meniscus). the others are not surprising.

Also read where Bedard claims the Patriots were considering drafting at 38, the guard that Miami picked at 37 (Jonah Savaliinaea)...before the dolphins traded up to get him. All of this makes me believe the Pats do not have a lot of confidence in Layden Robinson as a quality G backup. Also they do value the guard position.

Jake Andrews we never knew you nice BB special there.

Kind of shocking they gave up on Andrews.

They must have gotten very poor reports on him.

I suspect that Belichick's people might be the ones with negative reviews of his play, since any of the ex-Mayo staff didn't get a good look at him (Andrews was hurt last year).

I'm in the minority here, but Andrews is not a surprise to me.
With four centers on the roster (not including Strange as a potential backup), Jake Andrews had no shot at surviving final roster cuts.
The team was doing him a favor by releasing him now, so he can have a chance at spending a full offseason with another team.

The five other players that were released had no shot either. Let's see what the new guys can do.

We know that Georgia kid is going to be Starting so there.

Ricci surprises me a little bit, given that IIRC he was literally Vrabel's first signing after being hired.

I am not surprised about Andrews either
Brown and Bradbury signed in free agency. Wilson drafted. Strange a potential back up OC/IOL.
let the kid try and latch on elsewhere

I don't blame Belichick; this was just bad luck, not an inherently bad pick.
3rd and 4th rounds are the prime picking spots for interior lineman.

The new crew has continued that thinking with Layden Robinson and Jared Wilson.

Hopefully they work out better than Andrews.

Andrews was slated to go 4th-5th, though Mike Reiss says he knows of 2 teams that wanted to pick him shortly after the Patriots. I suspect one of these teams will likely grab him now.

Andrews was definitely a Belichick pick because they saw a lot of him at the East-West Shrine game.

What?

4 of them are developmental projects past their development age. It happens sometimes, but the odds of a big leap after age 25 are very low, especially with guys who didn't have a ton of tools to begin with.

For now no one of significance. Andrews is the closest thing on that list and Wilson and Wes were ahead of him anyway for backup roles.

That's a lot of rookies on the roster. Obviously they all aren't making but even for training camp that seems like a lot.

Already posted...just a little easier to read...

2023 day 3:

4(107) C Jake Andrews- released

4(112) K Chad Ryland - released. Team committed the double sin of drafting him too high, then releasing him too early.

4(117) G Sidy Sow - will likely be on the roster bubble

5(144) G Atonio Mafi - released

The 6th round picks were better than the 4th round picks.

Not a very high bar to clear for 106 Woodson/137 Farmer/146 Swinson.
