Maiocco: Five-year study of NFL drafts

Interesting view of the last 5 drafts but I am puzzled, almost in tears laughing over his pick of Meriweather as the best selection throughout this period.

I'm confused as to what measurement led to each ranking? He correctly notes NE has one Top 20 selection in his time window, yet seems to not make the connection to playoff contender/appearances to which NOT picking in the Top 20 equates. There is apparently no measure for consistency in winning, the top two teams are the two most recent Super Bowl winners, both teams who have had they down years in that time window. Truly a filler piece for the off-season.

And here I thought the models other teams were chasing were New England,Pittsburgh, Indianapolis and Philadelphia. The 4 most successful teams of the decade.

I probably like Meriweather more than the majority of people on this board, but how in the hell did he determine him as our best pick? And no way in hell is Maroney the absolute worst pick. Chad Jackson anyone?

If I were doing this "study", I'd probably look back a few years further and get rid of 2010, possibly 2009. Seems way to early to judge classes that have only had one or two years to make an impact. It'd be much more interesting to see the players still on a team from 04-08 than 06-10.

EDIT: This guy is definitely inhaling computer duster, he has the Detroit Lions pegged at 19. Yes, the team with a 18 - 62 (.225 win %) record from 06-10 is slightly below middle of the pack.

Really? Brandon Meriweather over Jerod Mayo?

Hmm...fishy.

Also, the Colts are far too high at #3. They've more missed than hit over the last few years.

Would think that weighting the Vernon Gholston pick by the NYJ would significantly push the Jets down..
