That's just not true.
They found 5 teams willing to pay him. 49ers will not pay him so they are not an option for an extension, so no he would not stay there to win because it's about GETTING PAID AND WINNING
He can play 1 year and go get paid where he wants or commit to the next 4+ year somewhere and get paid.
He wants to play for Steelers where he feels he gets both.
What they offer 49ers has ZERO bearing on if they get him if he says he's not signing an extension, which is what he has said so far.
From the Pats end they are not giving him Jefferson money just to get him, that'd be dumb so the cap space is also irrelevant at this point as Cleveland, Pitt and NE can all pay him what he said he wanted.
I disagree. This notion that players give up money to play for a winner is a pure media fabrication. If that were the case, the Patriots would be free agency winners regularly during the dynasty. Instead, every year the free agency winners are mediocre teams. Winning only comes into play if the contracts are basically equal.

doesn't make sense to pay him a huge salary plus a #2 pick and a player like Bourne.
Why not just sign a free agent next year. I also think Aiyuk overrated. He is not a true #1 IMO.

Sounds like it’s gonna be Pitt.

Who do you consider “true #1s”?

It’s unlikely there will be a player like him in FA. He’ll sign an extension where he gets traded to. Higgins likely gets tagged and traded. It’s very rare for great players to hit UFA now. Cap is so easy to manipulate that they either get signed or tagged and traded.

Bourne is just a guy. He might be 5th on our depth chart by the end of the year.

Word is San Fran and Shanahan love Bourne, but it really comes down to Aiyuk.

I think it's going to be us. I'm not strongly pulling for it one way or the other, but it's just the feeling I get. Pats in best position to get him, and they clearly want him.

I think if it was going to be us, the trigger would have been pulled already. Now we are just being used.....

Another perspective

How much could they love him if they let him go in the first place (he started and spent half his career there). I do think that they may be comfortable with him and know exactly what they're going to get as a WR3.

Whoa ye of so little faith.

You could say the same thing about any of the three teams he's been linked with though. Maybe Washington steps in out of nowhere?

Good chance he's looking at Drake Maye tape right now

The contracts are basically equal
He’s not giving up money, he had a price and several teams meet it and now he’s trying to choose where he wants to play
Yes, the Patriots could be stupid and go above is actual value but that would make no sense

Would you rather play with Brissett or Wilson?
Seems like a clear choice
This year but he's only 26 and has many more years. I'm torn between paying San Fran to get him and him also but it depends on what the cost is.
