Opens the door for LaCosse? J. Johnson looking more secure?

Back of the roster reserves, but there are implications.

Dalton Keene this generations Derek Rivers???

Whatever. I didn't see Keene making the 53 anyway if Asiasi was out there.

I think it's good that Keene is on I/R...I'd like to see him have another shot at 100% health. McMillian is a tough blow...I'd have liked him as a solid back up...at least he was a bit athletic off the ball LBer...

What was really interesting is that he seemed to really get the defense. To the point where he was calling defensive adjustments when on the field. That speaks volumes about his football intelligence, imho. To come in and click the way he was supposedly doing is something special.

Injuries can happen at ANY TIME. Acting like getting hurt on punt coverage is out of the ordinary makes zero sense. Players have to practice every aspect of the game. Are you saying that they shouldn't?
Remember we’re not supposed to play starters on special teams because they might get hurt.

Apparently we’re not supposed to play backups on special teams either because they might get hurt.

2020 was a terrible TE draft.
Yeah! Pretty damn disappointing. I was really hopeful Keene would develop into a jack of all trades type of offensive weapon for us. To have your first 2 seasons completely derailed doesn’t make his chances any easier. Would be great if he rebounds, but he is gonna have one helluva hill to climb.

Thought McMillan stood a chance to take Bentley’s spot. Sucks he’s done. As for Keene it looks like he is another in the the long line of 2nd/3rd round picks who will be completely useless.

Looks like they re-signed LB Cassh Maluia. I really love the highlights for this guy; he hits hard and has great hands for the INT or strip. I think he could make an impact at LB, but can he play special teams?

Really sucks about Raekwon. He was only a 1-year deal. Hope they can sign him again next offseason and give another go at it.

Keene's still got time, he's more of a developmental guy anyway... I was definitely a lot more interested in what Asiasi was able to do this year, so looking forward to that. I said a few days ago I had a feeling LaCosse was gonna make the team, and I feel that's a bit more likely now.

Probably the only way Keene stays on the team really, not sure if he would've made it to the PS if he were cut. McMillan injury stinks too. Hopefully both are back heathy for camp next year.

DaBruinz - Raekwon is in his 5th year in the league. The Dolphins traded him to the Raiders (they were not interested in him) and the Raiders let him go (they were not interested in him). Raekwon then signed a 1 year, nearly minimum contract ($1.15M) with the Patriots because no other team offered anything more than that. All indications after 4 years in the league are that he is a bust, not something special. I would consider the judgement of professional NFL talent evaluators around the league before heavily weighing the observations of Patriots beat writers. But that is just my opinion. :)

I really wanted Adam Trautman or Harrison Bryant. And the most explosive TE in that draft as far as testing was Albert Okwuebunam, whom I was a fan of even a year or so before the 2020 draft. Keene was another bad draft choice. Asiasi was an OK pick, but I would’ve taken Trautman, Bryant or Okwuebunam over him. Hopefully Asiasi can be a weapon as TE 3 this year.

Well, your response is based off of you completely misreading what was stated. I did NOT say that McMillan was something special. I said, "To come in and Click the way he supposedly was doing is something special." I was referring to his understanding of the defense and calling out the defensive adjustments during the 1st week in camp when they weren't just using VANILLA against the offense. Can you name another player during the Belichick era who has come in and learned the defense as well as McMillan supposedly did to the point where BB entrusts that player to call out the defensive adjustments during the 1st week in camp? It didn't happen with Seau, Hightower, or Bentley do it..

Oh.. Another thing. It was BELCHICK who was praising McMillan and his ability to call out the defensive adjustments this early in camp. NOT the observation of "Patriots Beat Writers".

McMillian's contract of 1.15M is 25% more than the "Vet Minimum" of 920K for a player with his service years. You're acting like McMillan was signed the day before camp started and not during the 1st week of Free Agency (3/19). How do you know that the Patriots weren't the first to come knocking for McMillan and he jumped at the chance to re-join Godcheaux on a defense as well as be coached by Belichick? Are you psychic and can read his mind or something?

I realized when I commented that you like to be argumentative with your responses. Am I psychic? No. Can I read his mind? No. You got my there - you are right.

I said Raekwon signed a "nearly minimum contract" if you read my post (before you get angry). $1.15M versus $920k is nearly the minimum IMO. Either way, 32 teams were not knocking down the door to sign Raekwon after he was a FA following the completion of his rookie deal.

And Bentley was calling out defensive signals early on too - your mistake -

"Overall, the Patriots have used three men to call signals this year: veterans Dont’a Hightower and Kyle Van Noy, and ROOKIE Ja’Whaun Bentley."

Let's not exaggerate how clever someone is to call some defensive adjustments. Raekwon is probably a good backup, maybe a specialist - that is all. Still makes over a million a year so it pays well.

I think that you have it backwards. IMO, he can play special teams, but not LB.
