If you remember the last time they played was week 3 of the pre-season in 2011. The Lions and their fans came out like it was their Super Bowl and blew the Pats out 34-10 while talking a lot of smack in the process. I wonder if that will get any play this week. Brady got roughed up and I always worry about Suh doing something stupid. I know Mankins likes to stir the pot but I hope he just leaves it alone for a preseason game. I can see him getting under Suh's skin and him pulling a Charles Martin and body slamming him (Jim McMahon reference).

Looking forward to seeing Ansah and Slay who many of the draftniks liked including me.

I think Stafford is a less talented version of Favre who just chucks it around and without Calvin Johnson his numbers would be much different. That said it should be a good test for the defense and I'm looking forward to Talib vs Megatron.

I would be fine with none of the offensive starters playing in this game and the team using Week 4 against the Giants as a dress rehearsal.

Ya I just don't see a repeat of the 2011 preseason happening. The offensive line seems like it is just so far ahead of the 2011 offensive line.

I mean Jets went in there and out gained them in yards. Their QBs went a combined 29/37 for 292

And they looked downright terrible against Cleveland.

Plus that was during that little streak where they went 9 games unbeaten between the end of 2010 and the beginning of 2011 and they were taken the preseason more seriously then the teams they were playing and ended up winning all 4 of them.

I remember seeing Suh flash a 3-0 sign during the game to the camera and I thought "geez this guy is a major douchebag thinking winning preseason games really means something"

Week 3 in preseason is usually a good barometer of where this team is at....

Seriously. Don't trust Schwartz, don't trust that team. Which is doubly messed up, considering that Schwartz owes Belichick for pretty much his entire career.

Suh and Brady had words during the Thanksgiving game in 2010. The next year, he took a dive at Brady's knee. I'm fine with not seeing that again in a meaningless preseason game. Of course, Brady and Belichick will probably feel differently.

I second everything that was said here. The Lions are the single most dirtiest team in the league. If anything I'd keep Brady and the rest of the starters out of this game altogether.

Let Mallet get some ball time since he missed so much in lieu of Tebow's horrendous performance against the Bucs last week

I have a bad feeling about this game.

If Suh tries anything stupid a nice Mankins chop block will make him think twice about doing it again. There's really no reason to tolerate that crap.

No injuries....for the love of god.

You're kidding me, he actually did that? I don't remember that from the game so this came as a surprise. I can't believe someone from the Lions organization, of all teams, would be so dumb as to do that --

I don't like ( or trust) Detroit either. Especially Suh.

I don't like their coach.

I seen a couple episodes of "Hardcore Pawn" and I despise their fans too. It left a sick feeling in my gut that made me consider that maybe the terrorists should win.

After the crap those clowns pulled last time, the starters should go nowhere near the field.

Do teams not get much of a say in who they play pre-season because I don't think BB will be too happy after last time?

Blow them out in the first quarter and call it a night.

Patriots Today - Brady Checks In

Here is what Brady had to say about the Lions, at about the 10:00 mark:

But this is an important game because it's an important step in our process to see where we're at as a team. We're going on the road, tough environment, we went there a few years ago and didn't do very well, which we've already heard about that for three days now, so we're going to have to do better than we did the last time.

So I was right, Brady disagrees. If Suh goes after Brady's knee, I hope Mankins throws him down, rips his helmet off, and stomps his face in until it only resembles freshly hammered ground beef at the local market and the doctors are throwing up trying to revive him from his coma.

This is the game where the Patriots are really going to miss Aaron Hernandez, as he was the one guy on their roster who really understood what it takes to stop Calvin Johnson and was actually willing to do it.

* The fact the game is televised wouldn't have stopped him either, after all-He Is Aaron Hernandez.

Week 3 is just a better barometer than weeks 1, 2, and 4... but heckfire, weeks 1-3 of the regular season aren't even good barometers by the end of the season all that often (or the Chargers would have never made the playoffs.)

BTW, anyone knows where to catch this game online? Not feeling like paying $14.95 for 1 game on NFL.com preseason ticket....

From the press conference going on right now (per Mike Petraglia):

- Belichick announces starters will play into 3Q Thursday against Lions "if it's possible"

- Belichick on Leon Washington: "He's shown up positively in return game."

- Belichick says Kyle Arrington has developed "a ton" since his arrival in 2009

- Belichick on Amendola "He's day-to-day"

More at the Q&A, from Christopher Price:

- BB: Leon Washington has shown up positively in the return game, even though he hasn't had that much of an opportunity.

- BB on punter battle: "I still think it's a very competitive situation."

- BB on Arrington: He's developed "a ton" since he first arrived.

- BB on RB competition: "It's been very competitive. ... Each guy is a little different than the other one."

- BB includes FBs in that group: "It's hard to make a comparison in our personnel meetings."

- BB on Amendola: He's day to day.

- BB on RBs: An interesting position to try and analyze....Hard to really have a straight-up comparison.
