Patriots legend Dante Scarnecchia shares some thoughts on what he knows best

Yep, what a silly idea to play the best QB on a football team. I hope the OL is fixed by next season and maybe then he'll play.

Dante is speculating on why the best QB isn't playing and he's giving everyone the company line. I wouldn't expect anything else from him.
This isn't a mediocre or bad OL. It projects to be absolutely terrible. Prime Brady with Moss & Rice at receiver probably don't make this a playoff team.

I think they should avoid putting him behind this OL at all costs. The fear for fans is that J.B. gets injured immediately and you have Maye starting with the likes of Bosa on the other side.

Nothing says athleticism like Trent Brown…

I do. The eyes of the beholder! Reaks Protected qb lineman giant!

Bill dumped Thuney and that was a HUGE mistake. What makes it worse is he's picking up SB wins with KC like blueberries off of a bush.
He didn’t exactly “dump” Thuney. He let him test FA and tried an 11th hour push to match KC’s offer, but Thuney liked the prospect of playing in KC.

BB clearly liked Thuney. Retaining him for a year with the franchise tag was not normal for BB. While the philosophy to avoid having the highest paid player at any position makes sense when attempting to be good year after year, it does have the downside of occasionally losing players you would rather keep.

Honestly with his age putting him one foot in already, I think the OL would force the other foot in and be his end. As legendary as he is, I don’t think he could get much more out of these dudes.

This. Right. Here. The whole having a G play T is not something new for this team. They paid big Mike T pay or close to it (I could be wrong g here) and they’ve been trying to have Guards play Tackle for a while. Who was the last true bonafide LT we drafted? Solder? Correct me if I’m wrong /forgot someone please… Jfc…

This is a historically bad OL. And again, you "Play Drake" folks ignore the high chance of injury. Your argument above doesn't even mention it. You are unwilling to engage on it.

They aren't going anywhere this year: everyone knows it. He's a young QB, and next year or later this season he can begin to shine. Why risk it before the OL can provide average protection? What does the Patriots organization gain by risking the health and development of what they hope is their franchise QB during a season with no hope of reaching the playoffs? There must be a BIG payoff to do that. What is it? What's the benefit?

If the OL establishes itself and is giving up a league average 2-3 sacks per game before the end of the season, sure, play him, if he's ready.

I said he was speculating in my post: "It's telling that his speculation on why Drake..."

The company line? He's not with the company anymore. He also said that a team needs a LT that can protect the QB's blind side. Do you think he mentioned that randomly as a general principle, or was it because we have a massive problems at LT? They were interviewing him about the Patriots OL, so I think the answer is clear.

That's exactly where I am now. I didn't realize just how poor the OL is.

Yeah, I've come around on that.

Bill had a pretty bad OL going into the 2000 season when he first was HC. 2001 wasn't projected to be much better, but Mike Compton was a big addition because Damien Woody couldn't snap a football out of the shotgun.

The OL has declined each year since 2022 to where we're at now.
If one or two additional prospect picks made over the past few seasons panned out, we'd be in better shape ol wise... Wynn, Froholt (sp?) Williams, Steuber, Hines, Cajuste, Herron... Not sure about Mafi... Sow, onwenu, strange, j.andrews have turned out to be meh to okay or are injured so it doesn't really matter...

Player problem or development issues (ie coaching) ? Or does it matter?

It's not surprising he mentions sufficient athleticism... our current two starting tackles have long arms and are poor athletes. He was telling us something without being insulting. I don't have that gift.

Saying "Wolf has failed" would've made for a short podcast.

I believe it's Frodo.
