Report out today Judons name is hot on the trade market.
I bet this is why Reddick is also asking for a trade.
Agents In their ear.

Let him get some offers for the Pats to match

No less than a 2

No less than a 3rd as the Pats will probably go after the better free agents again which would cancel out the loss of Judon compensatory pick if signed.

This is the Gilmore situation all over again. They clearly don't want to extend him and his value could plummet this season. Trade him now!

We have the money. Might as well just extend him 3 or 4 years. He'll be older by the end of it, the cap will increase and lower his burden. Unless we get a blow away offer, I don't see the value in getting a lottery pick for a really good player when we could just keep him. Who cares if he regresses a bit towards the end and we get less value in a trade as long as we get tangible value in good play now. Like we are just going to have to replace him anyways and the odds that we get a player of a similar caliber in whatever pick he yields is unlikely.

Similarities to the Aiyuk situation. NE wants to keep him but he seems to have a higher self-valuation than the team values him. Any trade would probably be contingent on getting an extension done too, so they would want to let his agent get a sense of what interested trading partners would be willing to pay him, and see if that value is a lot closer to NE's figures or Judon's figures. If it's closer to Judon's, trade him. If it's closer to NE's, Judon should come back to the negotiating table and hammer out a deal to stay, knowing he's not getting the big value he wants here or elsewhere.

Judon also wants a superbowl though.
So even if money is close he may want to go to a contender for similar money.

Trade him to the highest bidder from the NFC.

He seems unlikely to play for us in 2025.
Highest bidder at all. We aren’t even trying for the playoffs so which division we trade him to doesn’t matter.

I wouldn’t be shocked to see Bourne traded once he returns from PUP.
Baker, Polk, Thornton, Reagor, Douglas, Osborn, Boutte
Patriots go with 7 active wide outs pup Bourne trade him once he returns.

I have to say this was mismanaged quite badly. No player of his calibre would play for $6.5MM guaranteed.

The team should have traded him, extended him or offered him an improved 1 year deal with a promise not to franchise him.

I feel at this point trading him is the only viable option.

They botched the Gilly situation and they might end up botching this one too.

Judon is a weird series of events…played well early in the contract BUT tailed off a lot at the end of seasons. Then gets money moved to last year to raise his pay, make it 4 games before a season-ending injury. The kind of injury guys his age are more likely to sustain.

It’s an economics problem…why pay an aging player a premium who is likely to get hurt on a team going nowhere in year one of a rebuild?

Honestly?

Same for Bourne except they JUST re-signed him which looks very odd.

I don’t think Judon will be in NE by the time the team turns things around. Can’t imagine what ‘botching’ would look like in your opinion.

I’d be cool if they move on from him if the compensation is fair. He could really help a contender.

File this one under “Bidness is Bidness”. Last year at Judon’s request , his guaranteed contracted $’s were upped from $2m to $14m which worked out quite well since he was injured after 2 games and received his newly guaranteed $14m. Good for him. Now this year he’s got $6.5m left on the contract because $’s were moved into and paid out last year but he appears to want another bite at the . I’d make it perfectly clear that if he is capable to prove he is injury free over the first 6 games and can be expected to contribute then a similar contract to last year will be extended. Other option is to play on his current contract and become a free agent next year.

At the time, it seemed reasonable to have ONE veteran leader in the clubhouse for the 2024-2026 run for the playoffs. His signing isn't much different to the others. How many of the others were signed past the 2026 season?

It seemed wrong to plan to into the 2024 season with Douglas, Reagor Thornton, Boutte and whoever else we could get in free agency and the draft. Certainly, they expected to move on from Shuster, and Parker.
==========
The team planned to go forward with Bourne and Douglas, plus adding in free agency and the draft. That seemed right then and now. Even in 2025, we have Bourne and the kids, PLUS our #1.

Hey Elliot, we know Judon wants out....how about a conditional 6th?

The Patriots are not in a power position here at all
