Patriots exploring trade options with Mitchell; team is high on Kenny britt

So who won the trade?

Arizona:

Chandler Jones. Lead all lineman in sacks, QB pressures, and set the edge at a high level. Top 3 finalist for NFC defensive player of the year.

New England:

Malcolm Mitchell: injury prone, trading block, May be out of the league soon

Joe Thuney: struggling. might be regulated to a backup role

Jonathan Cooper: out of the league
The real trade was Jones for Cooper and a 2nd round pick which was awful. But I don't understand why people factor in what the Pats did with that 2nd round pick to get Mitchell and Thuney. What the Pats did with that pick has nothing to do with the Cardinals.

While the trade was awful, it would've been a huge risk to put that much money in a player who was known to disappear at critical times and then flat out not show up for the 2015-16 AFC title game. However, I would've kept him for at least one more year and then break the rules like the Dolphins did with Jarvis Landry who publicly came out and said they had no plans signing him to a long term deal by taking "trade offers".

The Cards won the trade but it was a pointless trade for them. When your team is terrible, you don't invest a bunch of money in a veteran player that is not a QB. If he was the missing piece, that would be a different story. That really is the whole point of FA. See Green Bay with Reggie White/Deion Sanders with SF and Dallas/New England with Darelle Revis.

Chandler Jones is making nearly $17M per year. The Patriots didn't trade him because they thought they'd get a better player in return. They traded him because of the skyrocketing free agency prices for pass rushers. I'm not even sure they'd give him that contract if they were 100% sure he'd produce at that level.

Patriots may of paid him if he didnt get sky high and have a coke head brother.
We paid Gilmore and to a extent Hightower.
We could of paid Jones if we wanted to.
Maybe after having the pleasure to coach Taylor and Mcginnest.
Every other pass rusher isnt up to snuff under BBs hall of same standards?.

Ill never forget that contribution but It be nice to draft a receiver and get long term production.

Call it a hunch but I believe we target wr early next April. Rumblings we were thinking about taking Ridley this year.

This shouldn't have been released to the public. If anything, reduces his trade value even more.

Which is another example of how any analysis of NFL trades that doesn't include the cap money moving from one team to another is incomplete and just wrong.

That's why we got Gronk where we did, some work out and some dont.

After Branch and Givens its been a string of bad luck in terms of WR production via the draft.

Boyce
