Patriots don't expect Malcolm Butler to be back next season

He got torched last night by Wilson who I believe is their 3/4 WR. No idea why he has been playing so poorly lately. You would think he cares in a contract year.

His head is elsewhere.
The whole team heads are elsewhere including Brady and the coaching staff. It's just one game hopefully this was the punch in the mouth needed to get their fire back.

Somebody somewhere said that the Saints were offering their 3rd and 4th for him. One more season of him plus the likely comp pick is worth more than that.

Getting rid of one of our best defenders after we just had 42 points scored against us doesn't seem like a sound strategy

You trade to sure up an area of weakness and create another in the process

He played like crap at the start of last season too. He seems to be a slow starter.

Doesn't matter how bad he plays. He could give up 50 td's next week. He'll always be remembered for one play.

I don't think it's a good idea to trade him: we don't have enough depth at corner to spare him. We need the guy, and he's a very talented football player. Rather get this year out of him and take the comp pick down the road.

But what I will say is that if last night and this preseason is a solid indicator of his level of play this year, I'd rather we let him walk for the kind of price he's going to command. He's good, but I wouldn't feel good about giving him CB1 money if what we've seen over the last month is any indication. If they really need him next year, they can just franchise him - basically deal with him the same way we dealt with Asante a decade ago.

I didn't think this was a surprise to anyone. Let him play out the year, play well to win another championship with a lockdown secondary (in theory), and cash in on the open market. There's no way the Patriots would have two $10M+ cornerbacks on the team next year.

Let's hope it all works out of course.

Oh, you mean they didn't offer the #11th pick in the draft? Lol.

Yeah we should trade him and stick another JAG back there, that's just what you need when your defense lacks talent
