The New England Patriots announced the release of linebacker A.J. Edds, offensive lineman R.J. Mattes and defensive lineman Scott Vallone Monday afternoon.

All three players were longshots to make the team and leave New England's roster at 84 players. Teams must reduced their rosters to 75 players by August 27.

Meh, all the Rutgers stuff is overrated. There are so many players on the initial roster now that simply have no chance in hell of making the team, what difference does it make where they come from.

I'm sensing some sarcasm but I'm not sure why.

Wasn't so long ago that training camp rosters were only 80 players. He has to cut down to 75 by next Tuesday.

Mattes was hurt. The other two long shots at best.

It's good to remind the bubble players that the 'competition' does end at some point. We'll survive Thursday's Scrubfest with only 80'ish players.

We do need some warm bodies on the OL though.

I agree. We need a couple of scrub OL's.

Somebody has to play backup OT. As of now, we have Schwab as our only backup, since Svitek is the starting RG. I suppose Svitek could play all game.
