Tre Nixon waived (injury designation) to make room.

Interesting. He was a starter last year I think. I wonder why the Panthers moved on.

A good move IMO.

Heavy nose tackle who is more space-eater than dominant player in the middle of the defense. McCall's size and strength are positive factors in challenging single blocks and double teams but he doesn't play with enough leverage, body control or hand command to require game planning by the offense. He doesn't help as a pass rusher and has limited range as a run defender, so sticking with a team as a rotational nose could be challenging.

Strengths
  • Adequate snap quickness.
  • Fires into A-gaps and pushes into the backfield.
  • Occupies blocks with his girth and lower-body anchor.
  • Takes effort and double teams to get him moved.
  • Gets head around blocker to spy the ball-carrier.
  • Effective spins off the block take him to run lanes.
Weaknesses
  • Offers no help as a pass rusher.
  • Initial hand strike lacks quickness.
  • Below-average knockback force for his size.
  • Needs improvement at separating and controlling blockers.
  • Reached and sealed by laterally blocking schemes.

It’s like Keith Traylor and Ted Washington.
They must of really liked him.
Guessing this all but guarantees Roberts and or Guy is gone.

We can coach him up like this move.
Nixon the first WR domino to fall.

Panthers board didn't seem all that thrilled that he was cut

If I'm reading this correctly he didn't fit their scheme anymore - as in not a 3-4? Interesting. Might be a sneaky good pickup for our run defense...

would think it means the end for either Davis or Ekuale
nice pick up for the Philly game

I have been praying for a Ted or Keith. This guy was supposedly listed as the starter at nose tackle on their depth chart on August 8th. What happened. The story said he was 385lbs. The Panthers are stupid. They fired Steve Wilks and hired Frank Reich.

@captain stone this one’s for you, a “Beef Curtain” you’ve been suggesting they’ve needed for about 4 years.

Agree with those suggesting Guy and Davis are in serious jeopardy of being released. If they keep 6 WRs plus Slater, Schooner, and Board, they’ll be thin someplace else. Given their issues stopping the run and the potential use of Mapu as a LB, it would make me worried to see them thin at DT.
