You can book your flights to SB54 if he breaks out.

It's hard to predict 2019 to be his breakout year when he broke out in 2018 with some of the best stats in the NFL.

2018 - breakout as up and coming NFL corner
2019 - breakout as elite NFL corner

Yea hes already broken out. From Dec on he pretty much never left the field. Only reason he was a package player in the SB was they played more zone and he wasn't quite experienced enough reading the coverages.

YEah, he's already broken out. If anything, this is the year when he proves it to the skeptics.

My big concern with him is his tendency to draw pass interference calls. This may be a problem this season and cause the Patriots to pull him for somebody who can play without as much physicality.

    Yep.

    In 2018...

JC- Def Hold & DPI- 6 in 395 snaps or 1 penalty every 66 snaps
Gilly- Def Hold & DPI - 10 in 1014 snaps or 1 penalty every 101 snaps

JC had more but keeping in the context of the same kind of penalty.

Absolutely room for improvement but I think he'll be fine.

He is a great redirector of receivers. It’s an aggressive technique. If coaches start lobbying for a shorter leash he will take some calls.

Let me point out for the 800th time that the Patriots got completely hosed by the officials in KC, and the aggregate damage from those calls was well worse than the Saints one blatant missed call. The multiple PI/holding penalties on Jackson were total BS compared to the mugging by the KC secondary all game. Rarely seen such a one-sided blatant screw job, but the Pats won anyway since that’s what they do.

He’s not there yet. He’s on the rise but not many media guys/broadcast guys know about him yet. He’s also not defending #1’s so he’ll be in Gilmore’s shadow.
The calls will go away once/if he becomes a “name player”.

Yeah that was pretty bad. Eric Berry was allowed to hold onto Gronk like a kid holding onto their parents legs and the pick play that BB was irate about was frustrating.

    You are describing stardom

Breaking out and stardom are two different things.

Eh, if you breakout, you’ll usually get stardom. Jackson has played well in his short time but he has to prove he can do it again next season.

Its splitting hairs IMO. Just because some morons in Kansas City don't know who JC Jackson is doesn't mean he hasn't broken out.

Disagree about Gilmore's shadow. Jackson's going to be targeted a fair bit because QBs won't throw to the guy Gilmore is covering. If anything, the presence of Gilmore makes Jackson's role all the more important. With Gilmore and probably a safety covering the opponent's #1 guy, JC will be 1 on 1 with the #2 or #3 guy and he'll need to keep himself from getting exposed. The exiciting thing is he clearly has all the talent he needs to do it.

I think we'll see at l,east a few coverage sacks this year, where our excellent secondary prevents openings and keeps the ball in the QB's hands long enough for the line to collapse the pocket.

Man... our defense is freaking loaded this year.

Jackson guy has already broken out and Steves article says as much. He's talking about how Jackson could potentially elevate his game to being an elite CB the equivalent or superior to Gilmore

depends how you define breaking out. His breakout as a legit NFL player happened last year. His breakout as a #1 corner or star has not happened yet.

draft status also plays a role. If we would have drafted Jackson in the top 5-10 he would not be considered a breakout player in the same way.

If we expected him to become a stud his breakout has not happened yet.
