Fun little subjective thread. I'll first say I threw some players in just because they more modern players that people know or because while their career wasn't spectacular they had a shining moment that helped win a championship, IE JR Redmond. I also had to look up some of the older players, pre-75 when I started watching, to see who was who.

The basic premise is the most productive numbers worn by Pats players as a group. Numbers amassed while with other teams (Dillon, Moss, Martin....) don't count.

First place, let's just say Matt Cavanaugh chose his number well to be teamed with Brady. Second if there's only one player of any note at that number it's in the also ran portion. Sorry Hannah, Seymour, VW......lovers.

Now the ones we can debate for

11 Bledsoe, JE11, Eason:

50 Vrabel, Ninkovich, Larry McGrew, Sam Hunt, Jim Cheyunski, Bob Yates

24 Ty Law, Darelle Revis, Robert Weathers, Kyle Aarington, **** Felt (Really, look it up), Bob Howard

54 Bruschi, Hightower

55 McGinist, Don Blackmon, Bradon Spikes, Junior Seau

56 Tippett, Jon Morris, Rod Shoate

61 Sam Adams, Ron Wooten, Steven Neal, Marcus Cannon

65 Houston Antwine, Damien Woody

67 Dan Koppen, Bill Lenkaitis

70 Logan Mankins, Leon Gray

83 Welker, Branch

85 Julius Adams, Nick Buoniconti, Hernandez (1 Year), Brandon Lloyd

86 Stanley Morgan, David Patten

87 Gronk, Coates, Givens, Lin Dawson

80 Troy Brown, Irving Fryar, Amendola, Don Hasselbeck, Jack Rudolph

81Randy Moss, Russ Francis, Jim Colclough, Aaron Hernandez, Bethel Johnson (don't laugh they don't win in 03 without him)

22 Ron Burton, Assante Samuel, Dave Meggett, Steven Ridley

28 Curtis Martin, Corey Dillon, James White

37 Rodney Harrison, Maurice Hurst, Jordan Richards (I can feel the lynch mob)

40 Mike Haynes, Larry Garron

Best of the rest:
3 Gostkowski, Camarillo
4 Vinatieri
14 Grogan, Cooks, Mesko
15 Parilli, Hogan, Walter
16 Plunkett, Cassel, Zolak
18 Vataha, Stallworth, Slater
20 Cappelletti
21 Butler, Gay, Harmon, Ricky Reynolds, J.R. Redmond, Reggie Dupard, Steve Isreal, Fred Taylor
23 Chung, Ron Hall, Horace Ivory, Leigh Bodden
25 Rick Sanford, John Sanders, Larry Whigham, Artrell Hawkins
26 Ray Clayborn, Logan Ryan, Eugene Wilson
29 Harold Jackson, Blount, Myron Guyton
31 Fred Marion, Bradon Merriweather, Aqib Talib, Jimmy Hitchcock
32 McCorty, Antowain Smith, Willie Clay, Andy Johnson, Leonard Russell
33 Faulk, Tony Collins, Dion Lewis, Reggie Rucker
35Jim Nance, Patrick Pass
36 Lawyer Milloy, James Sanders
38 Roland James, Tyrone Poole, Brandon Bolden
39 Sam Cunningham, Danny Woodhead, Lawrence Maroney, Brandon Browner
42 Ronnie Lippett, Mark Herron, BJGE, Don Webb
44 Don Calhoun, John Stevens
48 Tim Fox, Tully Banta-Cain
51 Mayo, Don Davis, Bob Golic
52 Ted Johnson, Johnny Rembert, Steve King, Ed Philpott
53 Tom Addison, Chris Slade, Larry Izzo, Van Noy

60 Len St. Jean, David Andrews, Garin Veris
71 Ray Hamilton, Todd Rucci
72 Matt Light, Larry Eisenhauer, Tim Goad
73 John Hannah
75 VW
76 Charley Long, Brian Holloway, Vollmer
77 Tom Neville, Solder, Kaczur, Kenneth Simms, Pat Harlow
78 Bruce Armstrong
79Jim Lee Hunt
84 Stingley, Shawn Jefferson, Ben Watson, Branch
89 Bob Dee
93 Richard Seymour

JE11 over the QBs
Tedy over High
McGinist over the rest
Troy Brown over the rest
Vrabel
Ty Law

Can't pick between Welker and Branch. They were on the same team for a couple years, they must've sorted the number out.

what? No Ocho Cinco?

Comedy aside, great list, thought provoking.

I wasn't meaning this to be best of each number. That's been done before. I was more thinking all of the 11's vs all of the 54's, 55's and so on.

David Patten over Stanley Morgan obviously

Nah I'm just kidding just trolling the olds

Tough call. Other than 12.

Offensively it's between 28, 80 and 87. I'll go with 80. Troy Brown was the original TB, original Brady go to guy, and the original Swiss army knife. Amendola captain clutch. Irving Fryer .. ehh .. great player .

28 is a hell of a RB crew.

87 Gronk, Coates, Dawson and Givens . Damn.

Defensively

I'll go with 24 although it's tough to look past 55.

Then I goofed it up, sorry. In that case...

The 28's look like a dangerous bunch. We could use a prime-time Martin and Dillion on today's RB squad along with White.

61, 50 and 85 are going to be underrated by most. I figure our resident Flying Elvis hater will eventually find his way here and give a history lesson. :)

No worries. The 28's as a whole have been really good.

I'm a little surprised RW hasn't jumped in. That guy is a walking Pats lexicon.

Edit: Great job setting this up btw..

73 - John Hannah ... Belongs near / at the top ... He was so damn good that 73 only needs one representative.

12

End of discussion

that said. I'm partial to 14 and 81 (for Grogan and Francis, as well as Moss)
