That isn't really accurate at all. Danny Amendola had 85 catches his second year, Welker had 67. JE was behind Welker, and people seem to forget that in his rookie year he had to come in for Welker who was taken out for the season in the second to last game and led the team in receptions with 10 for 103 yards in the last game and then 6 in the playoff game against the Ravens.
Welker has 29 catches his first and second years combined in the league. 67 was his third. The point firmly stands: those guys were not the polished slot receivers they became in their first two years and it would be unfair to pass a final judgment on Pops ceiling at this point.

According to PFR he had 29 catches on 52 targets in 2005. No targets in 2004, his rookie season (he played one game with SD and 14 with MIA).

I don't know if it far exceeds them but it is in line with them-first 2 year stats
Pop 115 catches/1182 yds / 3 TD
Welker 96/1121/1
Amendola 128/1015/4
Edel 44/445/1

Welker exploded in his third year(112/1175/8) but that was 07 w Randy Moss on the other side.
Really hope Pop Douglas Explodes in year 3 under McDaniels.

You say the Trio had better Coaching than Pop who had a ie... a BB that lost his fastball and that Mayo guy.

I think it’s safe to say one of Polk or Baker is not making this team.
Read something about Maye commenting on them...let's just say it didn't sound too glowing. "They're ahead of where they were last year" I did this afterwards could they be any further behind??

I heard that, it was slight praise at best.

With the excellent draft and seemingly excellent crop of UDFAs, I think that the Patriots are poised to do a wholesale reworking of the roster. There should be some shockers this summer. I hope that the Patriots do not cling to a player just because he was a high draft pick, ahem, you know who I am talking about I suspect....

Throwing this name out there WR Demeer Blankumsee... it would be quite a story if he makes the 53. Looks like he can do everything.

Don't worry Drake Maye will let us know who's good and who's not.

In retrospect, it's pretty clear that Josh McDaniels leaving after the 2021 season was a much bigger blow than anyone realized at the time. He hid Mac Jones' flaws for most of 2021. (And Matt Patricia was a better OC than anyone will ever give him credit for)

I'm intrigued by Cam Riley. At 6'4 and around 230 lbs, if he has nice sideline to sideline speed, he's just the type of LB that Vrabel likes.

There's no doubt in my mind that Josh, while in no way is capable as a head coach, is quite proficient as an Offensive Coordinator. Maye is going to thrive this year, no Sophomore slump.

Just want a thread with just our signings. Here they are so far.
Cam Riley will make this team.

Patriots undrafted free agent signings

LB Cam Riley (Florida State): 6-foot-4, 228-pounder.

OL Jack Conley (Boston College): 6-foot-6, 330 pounds, has starter experience at both right guard and right tackle.

RB Lan Larison (UC Davis): 5-foot-10, 209-pounder projects as a multi-purpose back.

CB Brandon Crossley (SMU):

S Josh Minkins (Cincinnati):
A 6-foot-1, 207-pound box safety,

WR Demeer Blankumsee (Memphis): 5-foot-10, 192-pound inside receiver

FB Brock Lampe (NIU): 6-foot-1, 244 pounder

OT Cole Birdow (Merrimack): 6-foot-5, 311-pounder, has some experience playing right guard.

WR Efton Chism (Eastern Washington):Coming off a 1,300-yard season for the Cougars,

QB Ben Wooldridge (Louisiana): completed just under 61 percent of his passes while adding 461 yards on 134 rushes.

TE Gee Scott Jr. (Ohio State):

TE C.J. Dippre (Alabama):
6-foot-5, 256 pounds and posted a 9.13 Relative Athletic Score

DL Wilfried Pene (Virginia Tech): former tight end,

S Jordan Polk (Texas State): 5-foot-11, 189-pound defensive back; box safety

WR Jeremiah Webb (South Alabama): 5-foot-11, 198-pound perimeter WR.

ED Eljiah Ponder (Cal Poly): 6-foot-3, 251-pound edge rusher.
Based on what Vrabel is looking for regarding LB's for his Defense, if Riley performs in Training Camp, I could totally see him making this Team. Especially as an ILB who can also play OLB depending on the formation and situation.

IIRC, the usual turnover had been 15-17 new players every year. I'm guessing this year could be 25 if not more, new faces from last year to this.

I'm starting to wonder if our UDFAs are better than our draft picks lol

Or, best of both scenario's: Most of our draft picks become studs and the UDFA's that make the team become those hidden UDFA Gems.
