Patriots 2014 Free Agents - Aqib Talib, Should He Stay?
By:

Facing such big name receivers as Roddy White, Julio Jones, A.J. Green and Jimmy Graham, Talib was brilliant, allowing only 13 receptions for 186 yards and 1 touchdown while being targeted 33 times and gathering in 4 interceptions....

I think he is our only true fa priority. Other than our additions to the team of course. He is our only truly elite cb or defensive player for that matter. He is as good as it gets.. i mean mccourty is on cusp of joining the elite like earl thomas. Hopefully collins and jones take next step as well as ryan. But for now Talib is top priority to keep. I dont think edelman should be priority cuz we have An identical style wr In amendola whom cutting saves next to zero cap space.....peace rku

If you look at the pats schedule next year and see what QB's and WR's this D will be facing you'll quickly get the answer to that question. The answer is YES.

If the price is right he obviously should stay because he's a great player. But in this case by right I mean below top CB market value. He's a player who will miss something like 3-5 games in regular season and having a chronic hip injury will affect him badly in cold January.

I don't think he's a priority over Edelman but I want him to stay though.

The Patriots should hold on for dear life to both Talib and Edelman.

Talib makes the defensive backfield a good one. Without him, they are
only fair to poor.

For much of the year, Edelman was Brady's only reliable receiver. Last
year it took the offense half a year to develop. Next year the same thing may occur without Edelman and without Gronk to start the year.

With some restructuring and selective cutting, the Pats can make some cap
space to afford both of them.

They need to hold onto Talib, they need to keep things together not take a step back.

I'm pencilling him in as gone. Gonzo too much money higher bids elsewhere. At least we keep edelman.

I may be putting too much weight on this, but I just don't trust Talib to be available when we need him most. This latest injury was the result of a (IMO) cheap shot, but that hip thing isn't going to go away with age. I'd rather invest the resources into improving the front 7 and hope you can make up some of the difference in the secondary with an improved pass rush, as well as improved Dennard and Ryan.

Talib is a 27 yr old impact corner. Injuries can b minimized through a grueling off season conditioning program. He is a rook or knight to help put us on top. Edelman is a pawn/knight mixture at best. He can be replaced easily. Paying another mediocre piece big$$$$ is just going to prevent us from surrounding the king with more rooks, bishops, and knights who cost $$$$ to bring aboard.

Rumor has it that the skins are making him their priority.

So why wasn't this done over the past few offseasons? It's not like this lower body (specifically hip) injuries are anything new for Talib.

Talib is a great cb, BUT, he can NOT take a hit. Welker basically bumped Talib
who actually braced himself at the last minute and he still fell apart. love him but..........?

He's never once finished out a complete season at the end of the year in his previous 6 years, misses an average of 21-22% of every single season due to injury, and has dealt with a chronic hip injury for the past 3-4 seasons that flares up whenever it sees fit (unfortunately for us, that has been at some pretty inopportune times).

I'm not sure there is any "grueling offseason conditioning program" that could be devised to solve such an issue. I'm guessing that probably would have been attempted somewhere throughout the course of his career by now.

Apologies for the above post, Sciz. I responded to his comment prior to seeing yours.

Heard this as well I hope he sticks around though but I don't think New England is willing to offer the type of money other teams will. He definitely makes a difference on defense when he's playing.

They tried last offseason as well, as they and the Patriots both offered Talib longer term deals according to multiple sources.

The Skins said they would be very active this offseason as it pertains to free agency, so I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they attempted to get him again.

I think he is gone. He seriously needs to fix his hip though

Rather have Brent Grimes. Talib cant stay healthy when it matters most. He cant take a hit. In the next playoffs it will be easy for the other team to take him out Welker style. And then the secondary will fall apart again.

Reportedly, Grimes couldn't be happier in Miami, and the feeling seems to be quite mutual.

Obviously another team could come in and offer more money to pry him away, but he seems pretty content down in South Beach--for whatever that's worth.
