WIP and it's morning host Angelo Cataldi (who is very very good) is ripping Chung for his play, or lack thereof last night. It's good radio.

I'm shocked that a guy who was a complete dumpster fire at safety for the Patriots has proven to be a complete dumpster fire at safety for another team. Same goes for James Ihedigbo.

On the part of the Patriots, this shows that a large part of the defensive struggles were talent and not scheme.

He's not on the Patriots anymore.

He was huge in the community as one of the Pats who did the most for local charities.

Why does his demise make you personally so happy?

Count me as someone who had high hopes for him here. Oh well. Best wishes in your career Patrick. Glad it's no longer with us though.

Being a good guy and a good safety are not the same thing. As a safety, he was garbage. Those of us that saw it from day one and got piled on for the better part of three years for it (at least until it couldn't be denied anymore) are simply pointing out that those issues in the secondary weren't schematic. Philly was supposedly better tailored to his strengths as a safety and it turns out he still sucks.

On the charity forums I post on, I praise Patrick Chung to the hills.

On football forums, however, I reserve the right to bash him, and to enjoy myself doing it.

Yeah man I agree, I hope all former Patriots players are embarrassed on national TV in front of their family then I hope they die of some horrible painful disease for the sin of not being good enough at the game of football.

Only if they are terrible former players like Patrick Chung

Now you're thinking.

To be fair, there were some mitigating circumstances. A knee injury in 2010 slowed him down, and his struggles were compounded when injuries forced him to play star for half the season, clearly not the best fit. In 2011, the defense was noticeably better with him on the field.

Not that those mentioning these were right, but it was certainly reasonable.

Personally, I find most "he sucks" commentary to be lazy. It'll be right more often than not simply because the odds are so in favor of it happening. It is like people whining about NE's issues pointing to the lack of a recent SB as evidence. Newsflash! Winning a SB is hard! The odds are heavily against it happening even if every personnel and coaching decision was made perfectly. Beyond that, NE has had a good deal of playoff success the past two years, identical to what SF has done.

I'll take a well thought out post that ends up being wrong over a correct "he sucks" any day.

....great, now I can sleep at night, knowing it's not the system, but rather our inability to draft/acquire good defensive players....

Where did I write he was a good safety?

The OP was happy that he was failing on an NFC East team.

It evidently made the guy's day.

Says much more about that poster than about Patrick Chung who, while I'm glad he's no longer in our secondary, went beyond the call in the local community regarding giving of his time, efforts and money to charitable organizations.

"Yeah, he stunk for us, let's root for him to fail everywhere else he goes".

Honestly, I have pity for people who have that kind of mindset.

Chung was a beast for a while. Many people point to his coverage liabilities, but he wasn't intended to be a coverage safety (obviously better if he could cover, though). It seems to me, he was very active and a hard hitter, but his body couldn't hold up to the kind of hitting he needed to do to be an asset.

I have nothing against him, he worked hard and gave his best effort. spirit willing, bones weak.

Everybody Hate Chung Tonight

Thanks, now I won't be able to get that tune out of my head the rest of the day........

I can't speak to the OP's feelings, but what I got out of that was he was forwarding some interesting listening for the rest of us regarding a former player. I don't see how that's any different than threads springing up ripping Welker for his drops in the first two games and insinuating that he's lost a step from the perspective of the other side of the coin.

He has lost a step, but he's still a fine player.

Pointing out that someone is slowing down is different than celebrating it.

"It's good radio. "

How do you measure that? Did you time him in his 40? Because, if you're going by the eye test (which I think you are), you should be reminded that the "eye test" is subjective. I honestly don't see a step lost. The drops are a problem, yes, but he still looks as quick as he ever has.

Pointing out that someone is not doing well (or is slowing down) is different than celebrating it.

Here's the OP:

I don't see the raging party there. More than likely the OP was someone who pointed out that Chung wasn't all that good from 2009 until the halfway point of 2012 and got piled on for it by those giving Chung nicknames and making Chuck Norris references to him. People like to be right, and in this case (if I'm correct), the OP was. After he left, again, the Eagles were supposed to be a better fit schematically than New England was. It turns out that he's just not a very good safety anywhere in the NFL. The OP then pointed to a radio program breaking down his awful play. I don't see a "F*** YEAH, CHUNG SUCKS! :rocker:" style of celebration in this thread. Either way, it's a moot point. As you said, he's no longer on the team anymore. I'll go ahead and give you the last word on it because, again, I can't speak to the OP's feelings. The impression I got, personally, was that he wasn't "celebrating" it.

LOL. Well there were some who claimed BB was slipping in the tactical department. At least we can point the finger of blame squarely at his inability to 'shop for groceries' now.

Speaking of safeties, has anyone noted how well Adrian Wilson is fitting in? Is he going to be a regular rotation player at safety or just a spare part for us?

I really wish we hadn't drafted Chung now but at the time he was the 'second best' option because the Rams snaked Delmas just one pick ahead of us. Looking back at the draft now, we probably should have gone for Sean Smith instead to address our secondary needs.
