Tsc, a brilliant rocket-engineer level OC just left the market, shameful

I don't know what to think of him after the things I hear about Detroit.

Maybe he's like Josh. Good coordinator, and that's it.

To be honest I never thought Patricia was that good of a coordinator.

You guys are crazy resentful (this was not meant for anyone, just the lack of activity on this thread lol)

Yeah, he sucked here for a year when he was put in a unwinnable position, maybe a questionable times as DC, but always above average

this right here shows that he is a person that stands on principle. Im really happy for him, I hope he gets far ahead in life

My view on him has basically boiled down to - "smart guy who knows a lot about football, and was pretty solid as a coordinator while having the guiding influence of Bill Belichick above him, but is not an inherently good enough coach to do it without Bill."

Maybe he can do it at the college level, we'll see. Obviously he wasn't a good head coach and he didn't really do anything good in Philly, although his stint there was a little weird with his role being all over the place.

I don't really hold the Pats OC stuff against him because that was really Bill's call, Patricia was just doing what he was told. And it's not like BOB's offense the next year was any better, nor was AVP's the year after that, so there's that.

Maybe I’m reading a bit much into it, but when he was on Edelman’s podcast and Jules was talking about how hard it is to be a head coach, I got the impression that Patricia agreed with him and that Patricia himself felt like he was in over his head. Could be wrong, but I think Patricia wouldn’t take a HC job if offered again.

I’m happy for him. I hope it works out for him and OSU falls to Bill O’Brien in the championship game this year.

As a Nittany Lions fan this move does not concern me - yet.

Fat (now skinny) Matt did a good job running Bill's D.

On his own he has a lot to prove.

I'm not college guy so I had to look it up but it looks like you have the DC who just left Ohio. Makes for a strange comparison. On one hand the guy just won but why didn't they bring him back?

Either way comparing their resumes you'd have to think Matty P is better. The only arguments for Knowles is he's more familiar with college ball and he wasn't in Bill's shadows. Other than that Patricia's won more and at hire level.

We'll see. What I do know is in the last four years, Knowles's (Ohio State and Oklahoma State), defenses rank first nationally in total defense (284.8), second in scoring defense (15.7) and third down efficiency (30.5%). He plays an attractive style of D for recruits (and transfers) and goes after the passer. College kids love playing in it. He is an established DC in the college game. I'm thrilled they got him.

What remains to be seen is will Matt's scheme be engaging to the players at the college level. Will it be too complex? Will it be attacking or bend, don't break? Can he run a great D and make adjustments without BB whispering in his ear?

What I didn't like about Patricia was his defenses were never aggressive. They were the clamp down inside the 20 variety.

I'm sure it was Bill's influence, but the year Flores was here, it looked like a different unit.

This. He had an embarrassment of riches on defense and just played them conservative. Flores instantly dialed up the heat, then Flores left and Bill went yolo with zero blitzes and brought even more pressure.

UK Nittany Lions fan here too.

Great move for Skinny Matt he'll be back in this League soon enough. Did any highschool team hire Mayo yet?? He needs all the experience he can get.

All things considered, he did a pretty good job. Not saying it was the right move by BB. I wonder what a Spagnolo or Fangio offense would look like?
